Explorer Date 5701

Hello. My first post here. Just purchased a 1960 Explorer date 5701 with a 1530 movement. I have been wearing it for a few days and it keeps excellent time.

Not sure of rules but I would like an opinion on the ebay listing for this item if allowed. The watch I purchased on June 8 from Canada is ebay item no. 232357248451

My question is regarding relative rarity and history. Also the serial number is not visable between the lugs. There are very faint markings that appear to be parts of a few numbers but I can't make them out. Can the number be found elsewhere or otherwise determined.

Nice watch,Explorer date is very rare,5701 is made for Canadian market,also use the same case and movement for Airking date !!

OP, it is essentially identical to an Air-King date other than the fact that it is called an Explorer Date and printed on the dial as such. Dial is the same as an Air-King date with either daphne markers depending on year or stick markers on later production, but only a very basic dial configuration.
It may be rare since it was a Canadian market piece but I dont think this translates into additional worth. Maybe only slightly more than an Air-King date. It isnt your typical Explorer with a 3-6-9 dial and lollipop hands, so no big bucks and not in huge demand.
Looking on eBay there is an Explorer Date currently, but IMHO it is way too expensive. I know I wouldnt pay that much for it. If you got yours for a decent price then I would say enjoy it and wear it in good health.

Thank you for the info. Yes rarity doesnt always go to value. I just sent that watch to offical time watch for an evaluation. Not much luck finding anyone locally to take a look. I am hoping he can read that worn away serial number. Routine service is in order anyway. Ill report back when I hear from them

I purchased a Rolex Explorer Date in Toronto about 25 years ago. I don't think I've seen this watch offered for sale (non-internet) since. They are fairly rare and were only available in the Canadian market when new. I did recently use some auction results website (such as www.collectorsquare.com ) to determine value. At recent auctions the hammer price varied from mid $3K to better than $5k depending on condition and accompanying items (box, papers, etc.). I hope this info helps.

Well still wearing this watch. No resolution on the worn down serial number. Been serviced and appraisal by official time watch (leo). He said about 8k. No worries
Enjoying the history and the 1530 keeps amazing time. Still trying to understand the purpose of the short Canadian run on these. Gifts? Awards?
No one seems to have any information other than interesting.
