New Rolex member here... just bought the OP39 (114300) in white! :)

Hi guys,

I hope you're all well! I am a guy based in Switzerland who was lucky enough to get hold of a OP39 (Oyster Perpetual 39mm) 114300 in white!

I had previously avoided Rolex as I didn't like the negative brand connotations which existed in the UK which I was kind of brainwashed with, but now I see such views are irrational in my current home location and life situation. So, after seeing the OP39 reviewed online I had to go out and find it, and if I liked it, buy it. After almost everywhere being out of stock I managed to find one in Japan while travelling and bought it immediately, it was love at first sight. :D

I also checked out the OP34 which in my view was too small and delicate and a OP36 which has what is in my view an ugly and crowded dial with the double indices at 3 and 9.

For me it is the perfect daily dress up or down watch, not too big or too small, with a perfectly symmetrical dial and elegant and understated looks with the warm white silvery dial and a matte bracelet, which I love. It does not scream bling; it is a gentlemans watch. I also like the lack of date function as I found it gets annoying always resetting it when wearing other watches for more than a couple of days as I have a Tudor Pelagos in blue which I use for outdoorsy stuff.

So in summary, I am very happy with it and am looking forward to being able to contribute to the community where possible. :)

Welcome to the forum
Indeed... if a man were to only have one watch there would be many worse choices than this one!

The only annoying thing is that the bezel is very prone to scratches, I already have a few from knocking it on tables etc (one which was made of marble and had slightly coarse edges, ouch).

I know it's been a couple of years since I made this thread but I just wanted to say that the OP 39mm white still makes me very happy due to its discreet and understated looks. I was surprised to see Rolex discontinue it and this seems to have resulted in a big price increase even on used models... though I don't care about that as I will keep this watch and pass it down to family one day. It is truly a timeless timepiece.

I have also gone on a wait list for a Sky Dweller SS in black which I think will be a good complement for those times when I travel abroad and/or more wrist presence is desired. :)

Good to see you’re still enjoying the OP39. I feel the same way every time I wear mine. It’s just a great all a rounder, under the radar and easy to wear.

Happy you are enjoying yours too! I personally think that it is the most discreet, versatile and "modern gentleman-ly" watch ever produced by Rolex and people have to pay some attention and look at it closely to even see that it is from Rolex, which I find very satisfying. I also like (from a purely selfish perspective, sorry) that Rolex stopped producing it as I never see it on anyone else's wrist and I feel that it is going to be regarded as a real classic in future and highly sought after, with many people wishing they had got one when they had the chance.

I can't see me ever getting rid of this watch and feel like it is the perfect compliment to the less subtle watches in a collection. I would wear this in places that I would not necessarily wear something like a far more recognisable or visible Sky Dweller.
