Why have a retail presence? It’s no longer a short term phenomena, this is squarely how things are. If you went to LV, Tiffany, Lobb, you name it, and this was their inventory it would kill the brand. Walking into An AD, Boutique is a frustrating, frankly brand name undermining experience. Why push your customers to other brands?

I know that today, and maybe for a while this works for Rolex. Long term is does not, it opens a door for competition that is better not opened.

Rolex/Ben Bridge, Westfield Topanga Mall (Los Angeles). Saturday around 3pm. Even the employees are gone.

Haha, similar to what I saw at the South Coast Plaza last weekend except for few employees.

[QUOTE=brucethemanlee;11630592]ADs are selling almost everything they get and never hits the display

(snip)

Supply is being sucked up by huge demand by everyone jumping on the band wagon and by existing buyers who normally would only buy one or two watches over course of 5-10 years now buying 2-3 watches per year

Couldn't have said it better. They come in, they go out, almost immediately. How long does it take you to get to your AD after that fortuitous call? Not long. And once there, who leaves without the Rolex that came in? Nobody, right? Fortunately I've been the beneficiary of such calls and am eternally grateful for them, even if I am a bit poorer for a while. Now I just have to be patient for another year or so and keep my fingers crossed.

The Ben Bridge in UTC San Diego mall (soon to be a Boutique) isn’t any better.

Seriously? That’s turning into a boutique?

Oh yes, if you go there now half the store is closed off due to the construction.

Good to know. Haven’t been in some time since they have nothing to offer and they still won’t after the renovation/change :(

A major Rolex boutique in my city is also undergoing renovation right now. It’ll be interesting to see whether the new setup is optimized for showing dozens of watches (as the stores are currently set up) or for showing a handful or two of pieces a la Patek. The results will clearly tell us what Rolex plans on doing with supplies.

I say the empty look is fantastic!
^^This^^. Online ordering straight from Switzerland to your door for the biggest hitters only. Everyone else can pound sand. And all those ADs who dropped millions remodeling will be SOL.

Rolex would lose all its customers doing this except the WIS who are but a small part of the brands global clientele.

I have yet to witness an AD plead poverty and close their doors.... even in Lockdowns.

This tells me Rolex is providing plenty of watches and they are moving them faster than they can put them on display.

Oh for the madness of crowds and the fear of missing out!
