DJ41 "impact damage"

A couple of weeks ago, I took my 126334 DJ 41 back to the AD for the second time this year. The day I dropped it off the time-keeping was way off (i didn't have my timegrapher yet) and I noticed it starting and stopping. It was almost like a tooth had broken loose and was gumming up the internals although I didn't feel anything catching when I wound the watch.

They called yesterday and said that the watch had slight "impact damage" as if it had been dropped or banged against something. The lady said that nothing was broken but that something was out of alignment. She wasn't any more specific than that.

I have not dropped the watch nor do I recall banging it into anything.

The watch is still under warranty but is the AD trying to wiggle out of covering the repair?

Has anyone else had a similar situation?

I would avoid terms like ‘dropping off’ + impact damage + ‘time keeping is off’ I if you explain your story at Rolex.. :D

You’re probably right. I hadn’t thought of that. I hope there isn’t a next time!

I believe the "slight impact damage" is a standard answer which they probably repeat as they hear it from RSC.

I sent a OP39 in under warranty due to it running hot (high amplitude). No dents or dings and certainly not knocked around. Returned running perfect while RSC simply stated "impact" or some such.. repairing for free, next one is my responsibility.

So if anything, I would bet they at least they fix it once while under warranty. It doesn't cost the AD anything so I don't think they are trying to "get out of it". Or you can send it directly to RSC if you wish to skip your AD.

The guarantee is with Rolex not the AD, if the watch has stopped working or isn't working correctly then it should go back to Rolex.

Contact your RSC and get the watch into them not into your AD.

I would be very surprised if they charged you for it. I took my father in laws C Daytona in for repair as the chrono would stop at 11 seconds.
He wears the absolute hell out of this thing (and it shows) so it probably has been banged around. They mentioned it might have been an impact but just fixed it and cleaned it up under warranty.

Yes, my experience is that Rolex doesn’t question how damage occurred during warranty. They seem to work under the premise that their watches are rugged and designed to be worn in extreme situations (as per some of their advertising, F1, Golf, Tennis, etc) so they just repair, no questions (usually) asked. However, one should avoid comments like “I dropped it” etc with the neophyte ADs who generally know nothing about RSC policies
