Trying to get an authentic hand-wound Panerai in Miami.

Trying to get an authentic hand-wound Panerai in Miami.

Is there any way to check authenticity if I buy a Panerai hand winding from a private party? Is a dealer safer? How can I not be fooled?

See Simone at the Miami boutique or Esteban in Bal Harbour.

The best of Panerai is in the past, I wouldn't be buying anything new.

If you know the model you're looking for, look for a used one from a reputable dealer with full kit, some even supply the original receipt. Provenance is everything with used pams.

Panerai fakes are too good and too common, the chances of being duped by a private seller are just too high, especially on models with ETA/Unitas movements. Its a mine field out there.

I appreciate what you say but what happens is that I can buy a PAM 1084 directly from an official dealer model 2021 complete and there is not much difference in price with an older PAM 111, used, without warranty, without papers, etc.
Any comment?
Thanks again

I’d pay extra not to have the OP logo on the dial. And I prefer the ETA movement. And I prefer older things in general.

Skip the 1084, as corners were cut, and step up to the 915. It’s a relative bargain these days for Panerai and ticks all the boxes.

Thank you very much for that clarification of "cut corners" in the 1084 model. I had not realized it and it is already different from the other Panerai. It seems that only those models have that modification because I do not see them in the rest of the new ones.
It no longer follows the classic Panerai line. I will keep looking for a 005/111/915.
Thanks again.

Hello The OG beef
It seems to me that the model 776 also has "cut corners". Can be? Actually in the photos the difference is minimal but I wanted to check it with you.
Thanks.

IMO, yes. If you see a Luminor with 100m water resistance it means the watch has a press-fit back, not screwed. Nothing wrong with that, but not in line with the brand’s overall values IMO. Look to 300m water resistance as a guide. I really believe the 915 is your current collection ticket.

The 111 has become an icon, its a well known model and always the watch suggested when someone wants to dip their toes into the Panerai waters. That's the one I would go for.

In typical Panerai style, they had to make another one though. Like a rock band that just doesn't know when to quit, they put out another album no one really wanted. I wouldn't buy it, but that's just a personal decision. I think these endless new models have diluted the Panerai brand to the point that I have no interest in them.

Panerai have made some great watches, but they're mostly in the back catalogue. Walking into a boutique an buying a new 1084 does have some appeal, and I can understand why, but I'd be hunting out a nice 111 if it was me.

(And as already mentioned, 100m vs 300m suggests they've cheaped out again. Panerai have a long history of this - another reason I won't by anything new)
