Icon1 GS warranty extended from 3 to 5 years

FYI:

"Today, Grand Seiko is proud to announce that it is extending the warranty from three to five years on all its timepieces purchased at any authorized retail partner worldwide. The new five-year warranty will take effect from October 1, 2021 and will also be applied to any Grand Seiko watch purchased on or after January 1, 2021. Furthermore, the warranty information of each watch will be registered online to provide prompt after-sales service."

That's great. I remember a couple of years ago when it went from 2 to 3.

I am assuming owners of GS watches that qualify for this extended warranty need not do anything as GS will be doing the updates to their online systems as the quote appears to be saying?

Presumably they will just honour the valid warranty card on presentation, as Rolex did when they back dated the five year warranty for existing owners who had bought their watches in the previous year (or whenever it was back dated to) a few years ago.

Thanks! This is great news for owners of GS that qualify. Will also make their watches more attractive, especially the spring-drive models, since that tech is proprietary to GS.

That's what I was thinking, though as my only modern GS is a 9F quartz I'm not expecting to require a service for about 50 years

Does this new warranty apply only to the original owner on file with GS, or it goes with the watch ?

Some ADs independently extend Grand Seiko warranties by an additional three years, such as Watches of Switzerland, which runs the GS Boutique in Soho in Manhattan. So, presumably that means you now get an 8-year warranty on GS watches bought there. That's pretty good.

Great info! Does this include pieces made in 2019 but purchased from an AD in 2021?

From what I hear, GS are so good they don’t really need a warranty.
I want one. Someday…
