SKX: Never ceases to amaze

Is this normal for an SKX? or did I just get unlucky? My Turtle date is perfect and the chapter ring is out of alignment but not by much and is only noticed at the 6 O' clock index if you look for it.

Let it run for a good week or two, might just sort itself out. Even if it doesn’t, you’ve got a watch that’ll run forever

Another one for the 009. The deep matte blue against the white markers is great.

You can always slightly mod it and add a solid color chapter ring. That solves the alignment issue and if you're not timing anything using the seconds markers then you'll never worry about it. I did it on my SRP777 and it looks awesome with brushed stainless.

As far as the date, that may just be a quirk for that moment. I have had that happen. What you can do is pull the crown and wind through the month and set it back on the date in the middle of the aperture.

"Billions" of these were made and there are certain tolerances that Seiko accepts to keep them churning out. "It works and that's what matters" sort of philosophy with these models. Yeah it may not be centered all the time...but.

What’s really good news is the praise that the SKX is getting from the guys on here that have been into watches for years. Who have a lot of of high end watches and still give the SKX a huge amount of respect, warms my heart so it does. I love my 2, 007/ 009. Today’s choice is 009 on a distressed brown strap....whoever is getting the 009 you’ll love it.

I like the 009 quite a lot, but haven't worn it yet. I'm actually exchanging mine. I can't live with the offset date. I didn't want to send it back worn and stickers removed.

Hopefully it was just bad luck and the next one will be satisfactory, but if it's still an issue I can chalk it up to the date wheel batch on these latest serial numbers. I will then order a replacement date wheel and have it swapped out and have the chapter ring adjusted if it's off as well. (This one's chapter ring was off too, by quite a bit).

That's how much I like the 009. Without even have worn it yet. I can just tell. Ha!

After having bad luck with a strapcode bracelet, I just went with the original Seiko jubilee. It’s everything I already know it to be.

What was wrong with the strapcode bracelet?

The clasp was stamped metal, similar to the SKX original and not accurately represented on their site and customer photos. I read up and saw a lot of concern with the clasp, so I elected not to try again.

The links were nice but what’s the point if the clasp sucks. I know Dan likes his, which is great. I’m not there yet.

I already know what I’m getting with the SKX bracelet and is worth the $30.

You'd be more than happy with this milled clasp, which is available on most if not all Strapcode bracelets.

Thanks for the close-up, Dan! You’re probably right. The one I got in the mail is definitely not like the rest. I talked to a buddy at work who has the Angus link strap and he’s going to bring it in.

Yeah I thought the clasps were solid milled, maybe you had an older one? I'm genuinely interested because when I finally get my 009 exchanged, I am thinking about a Jubilee or Oyster from Strapcode.

I think I did get an older one. It was also a return I think, since the packaging was opened once.

I have a Strapcode Super Oyster that really takes the watch into another class, IMO.

Picked up an SKX 013 for my wife.

The stock strap is too big and bulky for her, I will swap it out for a NATO or vintage style leather.

Recently Acquired

I love (most) all watches, certainly irrespective of the price point and a fan of Seiko. I have not had in my collection an SKX. I have a Gen 1 Black Monster, and thought an SKX sharing the same movement maybe redundant. I was dead wrong. About a couple of years ago I sold my orange Sumo, and been missing an orange dial. So I purchased this. I just swapped out the rubber strap for a NATO band and now this bracelet. What a difference the bracelet makes. The watch feels great on the wrist. I could not be happier with it.

FWIW the date often becomes misaligned on mine ... I just wind it ahead, reset and it usually self centers

Nice SKX’s everyone !!

I’ve been wearing my 009 for almost 5 days in a row now and I miss having it in my rotation. Haven’t worn it in months. What is cool is it’s still -5 seconds per day. Which for a 7S26 I’d say is doing really well. Heck, my Marathon GSAR with the ETA 2824-2 is -5 seconds per day as well and cost many times my SKX.

In terms of utility x enjoyment, dollar for dollar, my SKX007J is the best consumer purchase I've ever made.

[edit to add] It's also led me to a 6309 and an SRP777.

I've been wearing my SKX009 daily now for weeks without paying too much attention to timing. Just checked and it's now 12 secs fast.
