116610LV crown clicks when unscrewing - 114060 does not???

Hi there. First post. Bit of a question here. I own both a 116610LV and a 114060 and today after almost a year I've noticed that when unscrewing the crown (counterclockwise rotation) on the no-date Sub it is silent - but on the Sub Date it makes a faint clicking sound as its unscrewed.

Is this normal? I wouldve assumed the noised would be identical on both. Perhaps the date function causes the SubDate crown to click when unwound? I can't fathom anybother reason as theyre essentially the same watch aside from an extra crown position on the date version.

Does anybody know why this is? Or if anybody owns either one or both can you test this for me? Much obliged!!

You're not listening closely enough..

Either may have an audible clicking from the ratchet when unscrewing the crown.

I promise you I am. The no-date Sub has ZERO clicking when unscrewing the crown. The Hulk its easy to hear. I've held both to my ear and unscrewed.

I am unscrewing the crown of my 14060M at this very moment.....

........... I hear clicking.

Probably depends on cleaning and oiling and if there is enough drag from friction-rubbing of the crown (before it engages) turning the stem in the ratchet direction.

Well mine is the 114060 - could that make a difference? Ive tested this 20 times now. The Submariner Date clicks - the nodate doesnt click.

Anyone? Lol

Sorry!

But yeah both of these watches are relatively new (less than a year old) so i cant see friction eroding the clicking from the NoDate already? Unless its possible? I just want to make sure nothing is wrong.

Wait so is the counter-clockwise clicking when unscrewing the crown something that will gradually go away with regular unscrewing/screwing in of the crown?

Very possibly.. It is a neutral action/movement of the stem.. Counterclockwise does nothing except free-wheel rotation and is much easier to turn than the power direction.

You are doing the same thing when the crown is all the way unscrewed and engaged fully. Clockwise winds, Counter Clockwise does nothing but click.

Correct except the no-date doesnt click at all. It just seems odd. Even with the crown fully unscrewed in the 'popped out' position the Submariner Date clicks if turned counter clockwise, and the nodate doesnt.

I know a counterclockwise turn once unscrewed doesnt serve any function but im concerned why they behave differently.

My 114060, 2015 vintage, does click faintly, but distinctly, when turned counterclockwise. Maybe once each quarter turn +/-.

I got mine in May of 2016 as well. Maybe the newer production runs dont make the tick noise when unscrewing?

I know this is an older thread but I'm glad I found it. This morning I noticed that my new 124060 (purchased it in August) is clicking while I unscrew the crown and if I turn the crown counter clockwise in the first setting. I feel like I would have noticed if it did that over the last month but noticed for the first time today. Should I be concerned?

Appreciate the response. Any idea why it wouldn't have happened until today? Almost 6 weeks or so after owning it?

I'm thinking you probably just didn't notice it.

My 2018 114060 doesn't click while unscrewing the crown (counter-clockwise) but it does have a VERY faint click to it while winding. So faint that I would need to have it up next to my ear to hear.

Both of my watches (purchased new in 2020 and 2021) make a faint clicking sound when I unscrew the crown (counter clockwise).
