Most of us know it, and there have been discussions here about it: the previous-generation Speedmaster Pro with Calibers 1861/1863 isn't the easiest watch to wind each day. The crown doesn't protrude much beyond the crown-guards, and to make matters worse some examples have mysteriously high resistance to twisting in their crowns.

I feel fortunate that my model 3570.50 doesn't suffer the mysteriously high resistance to twisting in its crown. I don't have much trouble grasping the crown and winding my watch each day.

I'm curious, though, about ease or difficulty of winding the new Speedmaster Pro with Caliber 3861. I heard the crown protrudes significantly farther from the crown-guards, and photos of the new model seem to confirm this.

Owners of the new model have been curiously quiet about how it feels to wind the new movement, and I'm guessing that's a good sign. If you have the new model then I'll be grateful to hear your thoughts.

Have had mine 3-4 weeks now. Was a terrible experience initially and frankly started dreaming about an automatic. However have gotten used to it now, and don't have an issue / notice it anymore.

Love hearing that crips sound when winding a brand new watch - will enjoy it while it lasts

When I had the Apollo 11 it was very stiff to wind for the first month or so. It became much like the 1861’s that I’ve owned after a while however but I always found the older watches to be easy to wind straight out the box

Had mine for just over a month. Compared to my GMT Master and Air King the 3861 Speedmaster is definitely more difficult to wind manually, with not as much purchase on the winder and more turning resistance. After a week I had got the hang of it and don't think about it now. Love the watch - the timing accuracy is excellent - set it to right time the day I bought it and it's still within 2sec.

It’s a night and day difference. So much easier to wind the 3861 compared to my old 1863.
