Tudor leather strap, help me out guys I think I'm losing it!!!

I'd like a leather strap for my 79280 so called RSC & spoke to the sales dept, they say that as my watch was bought with the steel bracelet in situ it must remain so & I cannot have the leather strap. I quoted the 2004 catalogue spec with the 79280 option of "steel bracelet with security clasp or on a leather strap" but the assistant was adamant I couldn't have one.

Undeterred I rang back & spoke the service dept lady who put me on hold while she spoke to the senior technician, after what seemed like an eternity she came back saying more or less what the sales dept had said but adding that with the strap variant the case has 4 extra holes to ensure the leather strap is a snug fit.

Please guys help me out, I'm having brain-fade, explain it to me like I'm an 8 yr old, is it really so hard to have a proper Tudor leather strap on my watch???

Thanks guys

That is partially true. I had the same watch and was able to purchase strap end links and a strap.
You do not attach the strap directly to the watch. There are 2 end links that attach to the watch, and then the strap attached to the end links.
It looks like this:

Apparently it is. It's true, there are two sets of holes on each lug. One set for the bracelet and one set for the strap w/ end pieces. Seems like with the sucess you've had so far w/ Rolex UK this shouldn't be a problem.
Weird, they sell a Tudor Sub bracelet to Martin that didn't go with watch originally but will not sell you one that could have gone on your chrono originally.

Thanks fellas, you learn something new every day

Amazing that if the watch originally had a leather strap I could have the bracelet but not viceversa

Yes there is double lug holes at each side. One for the strap and one for the endlink.

Here is how the Tudor endlinks look.

I try them on my ExpII, unfortunately it didn't work out.

Here you can see how it looks with only the endlink in the case.

So Jocke, you install the end link in the holes closest to the case and then install the leather strap in the outer holes?

Yes at a Tudor watch.

I was trying to do it at my ExpII and I was hoping it would go to have a springbar in
the endlink and then it would be possible to anchor the strap in the outer lug hole.
But unfortunately Rolex lug hole came in between.

Thanks, Jocke! Always wondered how those worked. So I guess you could use any strap w/ a Tudor chrono as long as you have the correct end pieces?

That is correct and you can use it without the endlink too.

At Rolex Singapore, they changed my 79280 SS bracelet for a leather strap with the end links with no problems, and no questions asked. I also bought the Oyster bracelet for good measure.

With these chronos discontinued for almost two years now, I fear that these parts will become harder to find.

Those are completely different than the end links that I purchased for my Tiger Tudor Chrono. I know that I picked the end links and strap up from an Ebay seller. Maybe they were aftermarket? But I assure you the strap attached to the end links and then the end links attached to the watch.
I clearly recall installing the end links with the strap already attached to it as one piece.

the ones that jocke showed are the "hooded" type..there are two varients..
if you have the hooded model then you can leave the endlink (called the hood)in and then use a straight end strap under the hood..or of course you can remove it complketely like jocke showed..
