Thanks for all the Daytona responses. The more I wear the watch the more I like it. I will probably end up keeping the Daytona and may add a pan 312 this summer. For both Pan and Rolex info. this sight is awsome.

The two are totally different watches, personally i don't like the Daytona, it's too cluttered and i'm not a chronograph fan anymore as i just don't use the function. The 233 is one, if not the most admired of the Panerai's, it has the in-house movement, 1950s case, sandwich dial and looks great, but it's more up against the Rolex GMT Master IIC rather than the Daytona.

....Now go ask this question on the Panerai forum here on TRF and see what response you get.

I had a risti tell me the Daytona looked like a cheese platter.

I would rather have the Daytona. If you don't like it sell it and move on. No use wearing a watch that you don't care for.

...had a ss before, wore it for a week...but found it too blingy for my taste and with my 7.5in wrist it kinda looked small... i settled for a gmtII ceramic though.

This is totally true.

I'm a Rolex fan, but I also like Pan's a lot. I would say that I like about any Pan I have ever seen better than a Daytona, which is probably my least favorite Rolex.

The Daytona is a better choice in my opinion for all around daily wear. The Pam 233 is a really nice watch and I'd love to own one but its a big behemoth. I can't imagine wearing it daily to the office under my shirt cuff. To me its a weekend watch.

between the two, Daytona is obvious answer for me.
if you have doubts, give it more time and trade it if it is not for you.
personally I don't like the dial of 233. 88 GMT is my favorite.

Two different watches. Both are AWESOME!

You really need both. They are so different but both amazing.

The 233 is sort of the Daytona of Panerais in my opinion. If you need to save some cash, the PAM 312 idea you have is great. Or even get a base luminor for the same Panerai look and feel.

Gotta have the Daytona though.

Daytona

I just purchased the SS Daytona. I like the watch -- I vote for it. I plan on rotating it for variety -- with a sub and a GMT-C.

I love the Daytona, but whoever mentioned the functions has a point. I've worn one for about 25 years, and I don't recall ever needing to use the chronograph. The look is tough to beat, but then, so are the lines of a GMT or 16610 Sub.

Love the daytona..people who are not knowledgeable about value or model can look at my collection of Rolex's and often pick the Daytona as their favorite.

The older 233s have all kinds of problems... Apparently the J and K series have been adjusted but I am not sure how we can know for certain until more time passes.

Also, I am not sure if everyone knows this but there is no "quickset" date change on the 233, if you don't wear the watch often you are going to be cranking to set the date.

I am a PAM fan and owner, but the Daytona is the easy decision there... I just made the exact same choice.
