Don’t shoot the messenger, but it was made clear to me recently that at least in my market area, it takes at least $300k history for Daytona consideration. Your mileage may vary..
I feel like I’m just shy of being at “Daytona or bust”. I do like other models, but they’re steel sports and I feel like my chances at getting another are just as unlikely unless I go for a DJ or something. Maybe I can convince the wife to take one for herself to help me build some spend!

Hi all- Long time lurker, first time starting a thread. I’m trying to figure out the best approach toward adding to my new collection and have had trouble “interpreting” communication from my AD.

It all began in late September when I popped into my AD, introduced myself and mentioned I was looking to purchase a Sub Date for my upcoming milestone and that this would be my first Rolex. I did not have any prior purchase history given this location is a Rolex boutique. Somehow I was lucky enough to get the call 1 week later (unbelievable, I know).

The sales associate provided with her cell number and I have since checked in to
express interest in a Daytona. I know that this is asking for the impossible but given that I started off relatively well with a Sub, I figured why not. Besides, I don’t really have anything besides the Daytona that I’d be interested in and I’m not into the game of buying something just to build history. So, I asked her for honesty as to whether I would have a real shot for consideration and she said “Let me see what we can do!”. I was partly hopefully by the enthusiasm but also was realistic in the fact, that after I had just made a purchase, her polite response was the least she could do.

Fast forward another month and I decided to check in again. This time I receive a simple “Not available at the moment! But I will let you know”. So my question is, do I have any real chance? I figure that my only real shot at Daytona is through this AD, as opposed to starting over elsewhere. But I’m not hopeful…. Should I continued to pursue the Daytona or should I explore other models?

Some have waiters over 2 years for a sub, you got it in almost no time.
A Daytona may also land in your hands, don’t overthink it, keep that relation to with your Boutique as they are way better than ADs who sell many other brands and jewelry.

If you’re turning to an Internet forum for engagement, I feel bad for you.
Honestly, he's not wrong though. You identified yourself as a long time lurker, if this were actually true, you already knew how difficult it is to score a SS Daytona and the likely amount of spend history required to be considered for one, especially if you are in a large market; yet you still took the liberty to post up this question anyway.

How would you feel if you were bombarded with these very same questions day in and day out? That's literally what's happening on this forum now that everyone and their mother is coming out of the woodwork looking for a *whatever men's Rolex model*, and it really can be draining to the recipient/audience. The SAs are paid to be ambassador of the brand, be courteous while vetting/courting customers, we're not, so there you have it.

I'm not saying this in a negative way because we naturally root for underdogs (that's what I'd like to think what most of us do, anyway), so like many have suggested above, be persistent in staying in touch with your SA, anything above zero is still considered a chance, right? And certainly hope you have enough patience and gave yourself a long enough timeline; GL!

Why would you do it? Are you desperate to overpay for an overrated watch?

Hype is addictive., don’t do it.

Does a snowball have a chance in hell? I guess it’s a small chance. More like winning the lottery these days…but btw, when someone comes on here and refers to a Daytona as “overrated”, gets me going a bit. I have worn chronographs and Daytona’s for many years. I may not know much about these things but I can tell you Daytona’s are not the least bit overrated, just really fantastic and sadly impossible to get…

He may be right, and he doesn’t have to be courteous. But if he chooses not to be, he isn’t going to get courtesy in response. I’m sure there were plenty others who had no interest in my post but instead kept scrolling. It is my money and if an AD doesn’t want to take it, I’m not going to feel like or be made to feel like I was in the wrong. I do appreciate your response though, I understand persistence will be required and even then I may not yet the watch I’m looking for. Thanks for the good wishes.

It’s exactly like the lottery on this forum in that when someone says they got a SS Daytona from their dealer, it gives everyone that ever slight hope you might get a SS Daytona at msrp from a authorized dealer. Funny thing is, I personally know more people that have won the actual lottery than have gotten the SS Daytona at MSRP from their dealer. It all boils down into being realistic and knowing how dismal the odds are even if you put in the time at a AD and pay tens of thousand$ on junk jewelry to foster some grace.

I feel like this is watching some desperate attempt for a miracle weight loss pill or fad when everyone really knows in their mind you are gonna have to put in some pain, put down the fork and get your butt up and moving. Sure there are some lucky people out there with some overactive metabolism they can get away with it and this is like those that get a SS Daytona at their dealer but after awhile you can’t count on it if you realistic you want it to happen while your still realistically young.
