Very interesting and sad chat with AD…

Hi gang! I thought I would give a quick update from my A.D. that I talked to today. I had asked him about the possibility of getting the green Bezel Submariner, he wrote me back and let me know that it will likely be years! Keep in mind, that I have bought a Rolex Sea-Dweller and my sister a Datejust from him this January. Not to mention my sister has bought about $60,000 worth of jewelry from him!
He said they are telling people without any spend history with the jewelry store, they will likely never get one. Pretty unreal! I guess I should be happy/lucky I got my SD43 when I did. :(

Wow. Thanks for the perspective. I guess 60k in jewellery still doesn’t come close to getting that piece.

Guess now the ADs count as an individual instead of family members... anyway, I give up upon any hope to get any from ADs

At least he was honest. My AD put me one his list and implied that he had some inventory later this month. My guess your AD was more accurate.

Is it possible that he did not know/remember that, or put the two together?

Maybe it would be worth reminding him of this and asking "what would it take?"

BS on the AD. Find a new one.
I had a large AD tell me "impossible" for a CHNR. It's on my wrist now from a Boutique AD.
Find the right SA and you are Golden (pun intended!)

Hahahahaha. I agree. You can easily find these on the gray market for around $20k or so if you really need to have one now. Even then that is only a $10k surcharge. If you wanted a SS Daytona, those are going for $40k and that is a $26k surcharge.

Just go gray. This would make 95% of everyone happier because you'll never pay more than the cost of bundling with an AD anyways.

Definitely remind him the history as he said Pepsi on oyster was doable few days ago?

I purchased an SD43 from my AD last January. It’s my sister that has the relationship actually, with a Rolex purchase, as well as about $80k worth of jewelry from him.

He asked me a few weeks ago if there was another Rolex I wanted. I told him a Pepsi with the Oyster bracelet. He said he’d let me know and was hoping it wouldn’t take too long to get it. However, I really like the new Sub with the green bezel. I know I can only be on the list for one Rolex at a time, he said those are the new rules at this AD. I was thinking about calling him and changing my request to the Submariner with the green bezel.

Question for everyone though, would it be stupid to basically have two Rolex divers? Or to be happy with the SD 43 that I have now, and wait for the Pepsi for a different “professional” Rolex?

Thanks!

Yea he said the Pepsi was more doable, I told him to keep me on the list for that too. I just love the green Sub.
He said they’re getting so few mens/sport watches lately he’s just not sure.
There’s another AD here are the Mall of America I might reach out to also.

Totally agree. I bought a WG Sub today after waiting for a year. Considering gray doesn’t have sales tax, I’m paying a $300 premium over what I would have paid retail. And I get to deal with a nice seller instead of a pompous AD.

With 60k spend how can you or your sister not get one. Just buy grey I don’t understand why people won’t go grey but rather spend with only a possibility of getting what the want.

I thought the opposite was the case, can anyone else confirm this? Or is that isolated to your local market I wonder?

Hulk is a bit more special, I agree. However he will pay fortunes for a hulk compared to what he would get a 126610LV for at MRSP

Ask your sister to ask for the watch and buy it herself. They she can sell it to you at retail price.

She and I did both get a Rolex too, maybe they’re limiting how many you can get/year now? I was going to start questioning him on all this but didn’t want to piss him off lol

I agree, I just have a real problem buying grey. I know you can generally trust chrono 24, but can’t justify paying over msrp.

If you only want one watch, it makes sense to buy pre-owned. This watch sells about 19K used. "Building a relationship with an AD" just to get a new watch at retail could end up costing a lot more with no clear idea you will ever get this watch from that AD in a reasonable timeframe.
