The ultimate collection

Dream scenario just for kicks.

How many watches and which ones would comprise the perfect collection?

I’ll give it a go:

Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5968a
Rolex GMT II 126710BLRO
Rolex Daytona 116518LN-0039
A. Lange and Sohne Datograph 405.035
Royal Oak Jumbo 15202st

If we're talking in dream land, the ultimate collection is all of them in the one collection.

Is this a reflection of your personal desires or are we just ticking boxes?

My dream collection is a reality as shown below. Actually not disimular to your choices in a few aspects.

You have A fantastic collection Steve. I have nothing to complain about with my own (representative photo below), but interested in molding it further. Perhaps want to distill it as I’d like to be between 5-7 watches at any time. I enjoy the process of learning about new pieces and the hunt that ensues…

I love my collection . Each piece was chosen not spontaneously but researched and scrutinized. There are plenty of watches I don’t have discretionary funds to purchase,I’m just happy with what I have and enjoy and wear each and every one .

Yes, you have a great collection. Oddly enough I’ve had quite a few of those prior to consolidating a few times, so our tastes could be similar. If APs weren’t so ridiculously expensive at the moment (unless you have an AD contact) I would add a Royal Oak by consolidating a couple of Rolex. The RO is a perceptible step above Rolex in finish and craftsmanship. Possibly later a Patek Nautilus by consolidating even further. I’ve already mentioned that I would not choose the aquanaut, since I feel you’ll become rapidly disenchanted with it.

I appreciate the insight there. Crossing my fingers for a APRO 15500st this year through an AD. Patek Nautilus is amazing but likely out of reach through an AD- have expressed interest in the 5212a and may be possible in the next couple of years. Still need to try the aquanaut. I have a soft spot for well made watches on rubber straps… the YM 42 and Omega Seamaster are on my wrist quite often.

I like threads like these. I think the ultimate collection needs variety of complications brands and metals. Something like…

Royal Oak (I personally like the 15450st)
DD40 (YG)
Submariner (WG)
GMT (SS)
Patek 5205G
Lange 1815 chronograph rose gold

After that, you can add some grand complications but I think these cover the must haves nicely.

G-Shock (got it)
36mm Day Date (yellow gold with sticks)
Calatrava or Patrimony (undecided)

I’d still want all my current, relatively inexpensive watches in my dream collection, but here are some grails for me:

FP Journe CHRONOMÈTRE SOUVERAIN, the platinum one on a black leather case.

AP Royal Oak Offshore, the 42mm black one with the hint of red.

Rolex DayDate, 40mm, yellow gold, with black motif dial.

Rolex GMTII, white gold, meteorite dial

Omega Speedmaster, white dial, white gold on black leather strap.

I’d throw in a Bluesy too. I don’t consider that a grail since it’s in my budget… I think a silver dial DJ41 with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet would be nice too. That’s also within my budget.

Current watches I’d keep in my dream collection:
Submariner 114060
Seamaster Diver 300m blue dial
Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich

I'd have an Aquanaut and a Zeitwerk in my collection, if money didn't matter.

The ultimate collection

These two get most of my wrist time.

And I love this one too

I think if I'd add a Sub and ExpII they'd need to compete.

So I guess a Sub and ExpII coupled with my Seamasters would be my ultimate collection. But it's hard to say, I like so many watches.

I'm in no hurry for a Rolex - happy to wait out the hype or move on.
