I really liked the 124270 Explorer I, but 36 doesn't work for me. It could have truly been an everyday watch.
Thanks for the clarification
You could try to acquire through the dealer network and best results will be had by finding a sales associate you gel with that seems willing to help.
If after a period of time this yields no results, you may consider going grey but keep them in the loop at that point as it may shake things up a little with them. Until then, don't mention greys.
Good luck

There's a lot of Milgauss on the secondary market if you are willing to pay a premium. Not exactly sure which reference you want, but there are some decent deals out there and premium in some cases is just over tax over retail msrp. If you're looking for a discountinued model, the white dial seems to be accelarating in appreciation over any of the other models (velocity.)

As said, waiting lists are very fluid, if they even exist at all. I would reach out to several ADs and stay in touch with all of them. One may come through. Not a good time to be buying Rolex, dealers' cases are empty and the stock they get in is presold to their known clients or prospective big buyers in the future.

Milgauss is a fine watch OP, but is it really the one you want to spend $8300 on, or are you just looking for the quickest way to get the crown around your wrist?

I think there are some pieces where Rolex stands above the competion, but I'm not sure the Milgauss is one of them. Have you taken a look at Omega's Aqua Terra line? They have a green dial, and many blue dial pieces that can be had for under 5K after typical discount.

I personally think they offer much better bang for your dollar and are a subjectively better watch, but I understand if you have your heart set on the Rolex and wish you the best of luck. The bright side is you are drawn to the Milgauss and not the Sub or Gmt line.

In Aus there is no wait list, we have expressions of interest and they decide on your purchase history, future purchase power and how much they trust that you're not a flipper.

This is at least true of the current AD I'm working with.

KrakenCali - based on your Moniker I will assume you are in California - How many AD's did you visit? There is in fact a "protocol" that AD's are "supposed" to follow.

You are worried about SPAM? gimme a break and read on....

I live within a 25 mile radius of three AD's and visited all three to purchase a 124060 (Sub-no date.) During one of my visits I ended up purchasing a 126331 in Everose at an AD just to get my name on "the list." The sales rep at the AD was slimy at best. He said I would have to spend "a lot more" to get the Submariner. SPOILER ALERT - the other AD I visited welcomed me in, we discussed the other watches I own and in less that SEVEN MONTHS - I got "THE CALL." Prior to that I chatted with him on the phone three times and I visited the store four times. Last week, I literally rushed down to the store and walked out with the Sub. Now, YMMV but the AD I dealt with was outstanding. Will I go back to make future purchases? - you bet! Will I visit the other sleaze-ball where I spent $12K+ for a DJ41 to get on a list... I doubt it unless he has a Milgauss to sell... ;) Buena Suerte/Bon Chance + Good Luck....

Been shopping with them for years and your parents before that?, a wait is reasonable. May still take a while but at least you have something to look forward to.

Have a bottomless pit of wealth? Been buying the entire stock of Oris, Breitling, and Omega that have been sitting in the AD’s display case for months? Well lucky you, just like everything’s else in your life, expect the fast track to your coveted Rolex piece.

Just a random walk in to this particular AD? Well you were likely the 78th walk in of the day, 396th of the week, and 982nd of the month and it’s only the first week of said month. That’s a lot of competition. Not to mention the other 2 types of customer mentioned above.

Good luck.
How true that is

Visit them again in couple of months, express interest and explain...why do you want a Milgauss? are you a engineer?..

There is not waitlist for this model, there is a list of interest.... usually the dealers receive every month a bath, the manager distribute the allocation to their sales rep... and the sales rep call people that show true interest, have previous relation, are referred for someone or have purchase history with them.

If you truly love the watch, dont lose the faith, visit more dealer and do the same... be patient, the Milgauss is not a really hot model like the GMT... you have a good chance to get it within 6 months.

I find myself in the same position as the OP. For your second group, I don't have a bottomless pit of wealth, but I don't mind buying a watch or two to show the AD that I am a real buyer. Does anyone have any input on how much one would need to spend on lesser watches to get yourself in position to say, wait a year or so and get a Sub?

I agree with this strategy. If you would rather pay list than the gray price and don’t mind waiting, it is possible. I recently got a Batman GMT from my AD after nearly two years of waiting but with little purchase history beside the Milgauss I bought from the same AD seven years ago. I can promise you that purchase factored into their equation to sell to me very little.

Go grey, the prices for a 4 year old full set are only £1000-1500 over the illusive MSRP. A used Rolex with provenance is every bit as good as a new one. Slap on wrist and enjoy the festive season and the rest of your life. Simple.

I think it depends on the AD.

I'm beginning to think this is true. The AD and to some extent, management match a client to the watch based upon the EOI list. I don't have any clue if time on the list is part of the decision making process.

And different AD chains do things differently.

Very insightful Guppydriver. I'm interested in many of these Rolex models. In isolation, I would prefer the GMT and Sub to a Milgauss, but I like the later plenty and believe I'm more likely to wear it everyday than I would the others. Once you take the more likely availability into account, it made sense for me to go around shopping for a Milgauss.

Omega Aqua Terra line is a beauty. I'd never looked into Omega before but it is a familiar sounding brand. It may be a logical better bet, but the Rolex marketing has cast its spell on me. I even had a fake Rolex as a kid.

Varies by AD. Since you are in California, where the majority of ADs are serving very high net worth clients, buying a watch or two is not going to separate you much from everyone else.
