116520 or 116509?

Hi, I’m considering my first Rolex. I really love the WG Daytona with blue face 116509 but it’s 2x secondary market price of the black steel 116520.

I want to wear it not invest but would like to avoid significant depreciation if possible.

Prices are crazy and it’s hard to predict what direction they’re headed. The steel watch is 2x original price and the the gold only 30% more. So perhaps the gold s better value?

I’m also worried about the softer metal of gold and whether I’ll feel comfortable wearing a 50k watch daily.

The steel one makes more sense (less expensive for similar look and more durable)….but I’m in love with the blue/WG.

Any insights?

Hello, I've owned a black 116520 before acquiring the PM WG 116509. Difference is night/day. It's a heavy piece; you feel your $$$ when worn. Scratches easy, but who cares. If you can afford it, get the PM.

if you like the WG blue dial you better buy it now before its grey market price starts skyrocket.

If I were going to buy a Daytona in the aftermarket, it would have to be a PM version on bracelet.

Given they used to sell for less than MSRP and now go for 60% more than list, haven’t they already skyrocketed?

Buy the one you are in love with.

The white gold looks so much like steel that it’s a fabulous daily.

Prefer 116509 BUT:
1. Bezel MUST BE SHARP - do not get one that's overly polished and numbers are faded
2. Get the new style clasp

You can thank me later

Exactly what Chronolex stated above but my preference as first choice would be 116520 due to SS Daytona’s are a safe bet for one and the other is you spend less $ overall obviously along with not worrying about wearing a $50k watch daily.
