My Total Wine store Mgr said in my area the drivers for the Buffalo Trace distributor stopped doing scheduled regular deliveries. It's all random now to try to prevent the scouts from alerting their buddies to wait for them at the store and then follow the truck to the next stops. It got so bad that they were literally following the trucks from stop to stop.

So ridiculous.

especially with bottles like Buffalo trace, eagle rare, and even Blantons.

You can birddog delivery drivers OR wake up early and camp for 3 hours just buy a Buffalo Trace at retail for 27.00? bucks... or be part of a local Facebook group where you can ISO them all day long for 30.00? ....35.00?

I really want to get a bottle of Blantons for my 50th next April and I am completely striking out everywhere. I was told my best chances were to drive hours out of the way to small towns or try in another state. No thanks. I guess I thought the markup would be more like what the greys are doing with watches, where they go 2x and 3x retail or more. Or are the groups all enthusiasts themselves and they choose not to gouge each other, unlike the secondary market sellers are doing when you look online?

It's definitely gotten crazy. I just catch them when I can - maybe 3-6 months ago I was seeing more BT and Eagle in my area, so I was hoping things were loosening up. But I'm seeing a lot less now - I don't think I've seen Blanton's on the shelf for over a year.

I just don't see the point of camping out or following the trucks for them. It's good bourbon, but there's plenty of stuff that's just as good and that I can get every time I visit my local.

Exactly, could drink 10-14yr knob creek picks for the rest of my life and be completely satisfied. But, I'm also bourbon-boujie and drink the rare things I have a stockpile-of.

Not sure I'd make a bet that bottle is holding BF product, people claim to know and share timelines and ownership details but it could just as easily be Bernheim HH, Old Forester, Seagram’s, Stitzel Weller or United Distillers product. No one, including Julian who bottled some of the most sought after years of Michter's has gone on record as saying what the distillate actually was, only speculation and matching of timelines has led people to do what we're doing right now, guessing... The BF era doesn't really match up time wise, though it could be.

That's very kind of you! Thank you. Yes, I will absolutely keep in touch as I get closer to when I want it!

I have a small independent that took my contact info down and said he would call me if he got any before April, but I'm not holding my breath. He said he hasn't had any in months.

The allocations manager of my local liquor store whom I have known for a while apparently got a great job offer he could not refuse and is leaving soon, called me to come by so he can hook me up…

To clarify the eta/timing thing… are you suggesting that BF/OF/early-times didn’t produce bourbon 20 years ago that Michters may have purchased along the way? Not trying to argue, just trying to clarify.

To clarify my point. I am suggesting that a few recent years of m20 are 20yr old sourced Early Times barrels.

Are you sure about 2018 being ET? Could be, I just haven't read that.

Thanks gents. Quite the weekend, Christmas came early. I picked up the M10 rye at MSRP, also a HW Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 9, Scene 3 (close to MSRP), and my father scored a Weller 12 at MSRP.

Very nice. How is it?

I have Batch 47, but haven’t cracked it yet. I hate cracking a bottle without a backup. And I realize a backup bottle will be a different batch, but still.
