Luminor / Radiomir question
For this particular query…
— If the 127 (Fiddy) might be considered the iconic/classic Luminor model, what is the equivalent Radiomir model?

I’d agree. And what a great piece too.

I have the 127. If you’re looking at radiomir the historically correct and probably never to be released again is the 687 (I also have)

As much as I love the 687, it’s based on a cobbled together piece from the ‘60s. If you want as close to historically correct as possible you’re looking at 21/232/249. More recent pieces to look at are the 448/720/721. all_in_the_pamily on IG |

I don’t agree. The 687 (and it’s black dialed partner) was a historically correct Panerai and very rare factory produced piece with its brevettato bezel. To save money with the original they used the same bezel as the screw down case back, threading both sides of the case the same, just like the contemporary 687. I researched the piece at the time and ordered it new when released. They had no issues using flat sapphire crystal but they kept it period and historically correct with Perspex/Plexi.

Since they’re extremely different to the other radiomirs I find that cocktail interesting The risti community didn’t embrace the 687/685 but I see both as extremely important pieces that will one day have their glory.

I should clarify that it’s the story of the 685/687 being presentation pieces from the ‘30s that’s bogus.
The known samples of 3646 watches with dodecagon bezels were assembled with various parts in the late ‘50s…maybe early ‘60s at the earliest. Did Panerai themselves assemble these? Maybe, maybe not. Were they ever presented to clients? Again, same answer. My point is that watches like the 21/232/249 have a much more clear history. Vintage pieces that inspired these homages were issued to military clients and saw battle. I’m not trying to take anything away from the 685/687. I have a 687 and love it. Any Panerai based on a historic piece will have some fog around it. Makes it interesting. ![]() Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
