Best way to work with out of state AD?

I live in a very high tax state and it’s one of the most competitive in terms of spending so there are no discounts to be had here for the most part. I think you can guess where that is. Anyway I am looking to buy either a reverso (not happy about the price increase) or a Cartier Santos, and I know well I cannot probably get a deal on the Santos I would at least be able to perhaps save in taxes from working with an out of state AD, or at least perhaps score some additional stuff with my purchase like a winder or carrying case etc. what is everyone’s experience with doing something like this? Is it better to email or call? I know at least for Rolex one should always go into the store, but that is not possible here and we are talking about two non-Rolex brands. Any advice is appreciated!

I would start with a phone call. Good luck.

If they are readily available pieces they probably will, but if they ship to you they may have to charge you sales tax as the threshold for out of state sellers having to charge sales tax is much lower than it was a few years ago. Both Cartier and JLC have manufacturer boutiques so you could call the boutique in the state you are interested and ask them to hold the item for pickup - they may be more willing to engage you than a random AD.

You think they would discount though? I doubt it from everything I’ve heard from actual boutiques.

It’s hard to just cold call like that . If it’s possible to drive across state lines for an in person visit I would go that route.
