Sea Dweller from 2004 or 2008?

I have a chance to get a 2004 Sea Dweller (originally purchased in the US) that is unworn and out of the box. Or a 2008 Sea Dweller? The 2004 one is $800 dollars cheaper. So definitely, I should go for the 2004 model?

Thanks,
Danko

What about servicing the 2004 model next year? Have you thought about that?

He said it's unworn, so at most it would need some lubrication. It doesn't have to go back to Rolex for that. I have two independent watchmakers within a halfhour of my home and each has a Rolex parts account and would service for probably under $150. Unless you are really out in the sticks you should be able to find a competent watchmaker to go over this watch for far less than $800.

Does the 04 model have lug holes? If it does, get that one. The true classic lug hole SD'ers will be the ones that are most collectible in the future IMHO.

Surely 2008 will sell better in the future?

May sell better in the near-term, but I would rather buy a watch from 1974 than 1978 in identical condition. Just think about your time horizon.

I found this quite interesting. I just came back from my local AD (I was in the neighborhood, so I figured I'd check to see thier inventory). They had a Sea Dweller Z serial (still had the green hologram sticker on the back). The lowest they would go was $6400, and no sales tax. I found that too high for a watch that's been sitting in the case for several years. They also had a SS Sub Date (M serial) they were asking $6,000 for. I don't know about you, but I think these prices are highway robbery, no ??
