Watch Recommendation (Under $30k)
Hi guys,
I've been trying to decide what to buy for about a month now. Initially, I wanted to get the VC Fiftysix Day-Date/VC Historiques Triple Calendar and the JLC Reverso Duoface Tribute (in blue). That would give me two really nice watches. The VC could be a casual watch and the JLC a dress watch (obviously ). However, now I want to get an ALS 1815 U/D or the Saxonia Dual Time. Which one/ones would you rather get? 1. VC Fiftysix Day-Date and the JLC Reverso Duoface Tribute 2. VC Historiques Triple Calendar and the JLC Reverso Duoface Tribute 3. ALS 1815 U/D 4. ALS Saxonia Dual Time Please do give me other recommendations as well. My current collections is made up of the Datejust 41 (126334 Jubilee Bracelet), OP41 Turquoise, Panda Daytona, Omega Speedmaster Mark II, IWC Portugieser Chronograph, and a Tag Heuer F1. |

First, allow me to say that you have superb taste in watches, both in what you own and what you're considering. You've got a well thought out collection but it definitely could use a dress piece or two.
I really like all the watches on your list and all are excellent, high value pieces, in my opinion. My single favorite among them would be the 1815 Up Down but I'd personally rather have either of your chosen VCs in steel and a Reverso Duoface in steel than either of the Langes, especially if you're considering the Langes in white gold, as steel looks the same and is more durable, albeit it doesn't have the same weight or romance as gold. As for the VCs, I really like both. The Fiftysix Day-Date is, arguably, the more versatile of the two but I personally like the 1942 Historiques better, although it is a more vintage looking watch. Still the 1942 Historiques and the JLC Reverso Duoface Tribute would make a stellar vintage steel handwinding pairing. The JLC in blue is the best color of the colored options too, in my opinion. Were you thinking about the 1942 in blue or red? In summary, my order would be: 2, 1, 3, 4. |

I decided to pull the trigger and went with option #1. As you said, the Historiques is a wonderful watch, but the Day-Date is just more versatile. I was thinking about getting the Historiques in blue. It's just a gorgeous watch, but the versatility of the Day-Date swayed me. After posting this thread, I was thinking about getting the Duoface in black and not the blue Tribute one, as it's $2k cheaper. However, I tried the blue Tribute a couple of months ago and it just looks absolutely spectacular in person. Went with that. |

Nice collection and nice brother :) - which ones did you give him? I took 3 with me, 2 Rolex and 1 ALS. The ALS became magnetized at some point, which was a bummer.
