Halos around Tritium markers?

Looking for any comments or feedback on halos surrounding the Tritium markers on my 70 5513 Sub matte dial? Is this common or a ‘touch up’ gone wrong? The lume is not strong and it does not glow other than on the Tritium area (the halo does not glow). Any insight is appreciated.

The Tritium has discoloured the dial?

Please post photos. "Halos" could mean anything.

Oof. Sorry, man. That’s definitely not common. Can’t be sure but it looks like something gone wrong with either a cleaning-of or reluming-of the lume. How long have you had the Sub, and has it always been that way? Has it gotten worse?

Just got it and was told it is likely the glue used in the application of the Tritium? Or that's not quite true?

It almost looks like the lume was too wet when applied. Whatever was mixed with the lume powder seeped out onto the dial and stained it. It could also be that someone tried painting the dial around the lume to make the lume look more uniform after it was relumed but didnt quite match up the color perfectly. Either way, the dial will need to be completely restored or replaced.

That sounds like a made-up explanation to use on an uniformed buyer. Which, if that’s the case, sucks. I would return it immediately. Selling that will be nearly impossible, especially if you try to use the same explanation.

if you can return it do so immediately. My guess is a re-lume with incorrect adhesive... No way it came from Rolex this way or it would be somewhat common i.e. spider dials.

Agree. The explanation doesn't pass the sniff test, and even if it were true, it still wouldn't be acceptable.

It's also possible that someone did a sloppy job of trying to stabilize the original lume. I just can't tell from the photo.

It looks like someone may have tried to 'seal' the lume plots from disintegration.

Looks very sloppy like someone used a sharpie around some white out used to brighten up the plots. If you own it, start looking for a replacement dial ASAP.

Looks like something was applied on the markers and spill on the dial.

Also the insert is not correct, I would try to return it if possible

Had that happen to me once. It was some film under the crystal that made it look like that. No idea how It just did. Replaced crystal and all fixed.

Take a look at the photo. I'm pretty sure the OP watch has damage on the dial perfectly centered on each lume plot, not the crystal. You can even see the sweep hand going across it at 8 o'clock.
