First PAM? 1312 or 111?

Looking at my first. Trying to decide between older ETA caliber watch vs new in house. 111 is considerably less $$$, but will require service sooner than later. Thoughts?

1312 is a nice gateway into the brand.
I bought the original 312 back when it was first released and it led to a big obsession with the brand and many additions that followed.

I vote for the 111. The 111 is a fabulous watch with a beautiful display case back. It is also very well made and will probably not need service for a very long time.

111 for me.

I just can’t warm up to the blue hand on the 1312.

Good luck with your choice.

The first Panerai is the hardest. Panerai is a brand that has many many options. From cases to dials to straps, pretty much anything and everything Panerai can offer. I'd say first see which features you want: Date, Rotating bezel, flyback, or just the hour/min. From there, you can narrow down your search a bit easier. Definitely try a few on, the sizes can be a deal breaker. Good luck!

Whatever you decide do not buy without trying (at least case shape if different model). The cases are different. I’ve now settled on a 112 as I like the exhibition case back and manual wind, the 111 just adds a seconds hand and is also a stunning choice. They are eta movements and can be serviced easily by any decent watchmaker but they are pretty bombproof too. I found an early decorated movement version btw!

I’d rather have the 111 even if cost more than the 1312. In fact I’m actually surprised it doesn’t. I’d wager it will do in 10 years time.

Ahhh, the 2nd Panerai addiction, strap hunting.

The 111 was my first Pam, too. It’s so versatile based on the strap you are wearing.

Congratulations on the piece.

Post pics of the strap as you get them.

My vote goes to the 111, mainly because I’m biased towards the earlier models. Took me many months to find a clean full set a couple of years back. Have patience & GL on your search.

PAM 111, classic. It will never look old because it already is. And no Reg. Tm. on the crown protector. Start inexpensively, you can always spend more later.

111 for sure. Can't go wrong and you'll likely never want to get rid of it. Just add to the collection.

Tapatalk was slow to load this but you beat me to it! Personally, I think the “Panerai” graffiti fits the aesthetic more than the later CdG.
