Bubble back rolex

I had my father's Rolex Bubble back 18k pink gold restored. Serial # 473292. The watch maker did I great job. The problem is he polished most of the serial number off. Even though I have no inclination
to sell it. How much did it hurt the value of the watch.

Hello. Those who know enough to care…will care. It would be worth the parts + melt value to me. Someone who doesn’t know the significance of a missing serial would pay more for it. We like pics around here!

Thanks for the reply . I tried sending pictures, but apparently this board has a 8 post rule. Do you think I have any recourse against the watch repair shop?

Practically speaking- probably not. They’ve definitely damaged you, but putting a value on it would be hard to do. Keep posting so you can add pics.

Never heard of a competent watchmaker doing anything similar…. That’s terrible

Seems to be a lot of dodgy watchmakers about who remove serial numbers, i take it you have seen a similar story of the day-date.
