New from Norfolk, Virginia

Hello,
Apologies up front for the length of this post. I do not blame you if you do not read it all. I just need to tell what lead me to this forum.
A little background info. I am 27yr retired Navy veteran and currently work for the Navy as a civilian. I have always had a small collection of watches, nothing expensive, Citizen, Seiko, Casio, Belair, Suunto, Tissell, Vostok... But a recent personal tragedy really piqued my interest in owning a luxury watch.
Back in January my father had a stroke and almost died. He survived the stroke and was on his way to a 90 percent recovery, but unfortunately he caught COVID in the rehabilitation facility and died two weeks ago. This got me to thinking about what he would and did leave behind. I will always have his memories, we were very close. But he did not leave anything behind that I would say personified him. He did not wear jewelry and the watch he wore was a throw away item to him. My dad was a very avid fisherman and put most of his disposable income into a lake home, boats, tackle, and fishing trips. He had no favorite rod and reel, kind of hard when you have close to a hundred, lol..
This all brought me to trying to purchase a Rolex Submariner. I have always dreamed of owning a Submariner. When I first joined the Navy there were a few guys at the Team that still had their issued Rolex and Tudor Subs. I thought these watches and the stories behind them were something else. I was issued a Seiko, I believe it was a SKX, I had to turn it in when we went to G shocks. Anyway, I made the trip to the local AD not knowing a thing about the current market situation. Let me tell you the AD was not very friendly at all. They didn’t even want to talk about Rolexs and steered me to a Tudor a blue-Black Bay Fifty-Eight. Great watch and I probably would have bought it if it had a date. I went home and did a little research and found out about the waiting list and the prices in the secondary market. I decided I could not wait or pay the high prices in the secondary market. Emotions always lead to bad decision. I really liked the Tudor so I looked at their website and found the Pelagos. I emailed The salesperson about purchasing a blue Pelagos. She returned my email and said she would have to check with the manager to see if they could order one in. She never emailed back. I called, emailed again and even visited and I could not get the AD to commit to ordering a Pelgaos for me at least try on. This angered me, so I gave up and searched the internet and found out that Precision Watches and Jewerly had one in stock.
I purchased the watch and it arrived with no issues. Precision was great. I love the watch, but as you can probably guess by now that I must have the Submariner. I guess it is the connection to my experience in the Navy.
I need some advice on what to do next. I am 56 yrs. old and should not be making these types of mistakes. Nothing good ever comes of making emotions-based decisions. Again, apologies for the length of the post.

Welcome to the forum Shawn, and sorry to hear about your dad.

Times are strange right now with Rolex, they have become quite difficult to purchase at retail unless you have a history with an AD. That said, there are examples here on this forum of members who have purchased without a prior purchase history.

Keep on trying and enjoy your Pelagos. That’s a great reference in its own right and to many it doesn’t take a back seat to the Submariner

Thank you. I will look past how I was treated by the local AD and attempt to procure the Submariner through them. I am enjoying the Pelagos.

Quick question? The next time I go into the AD should I wear the Pelagos?
