Looking for a “true classic” — here so much about these two, which one would you choose and why?

I would go 233. I find it the most well proportioned pam on the market right now. It wears surprisingly well for a 44mm, it has a gmt function, I like the power reserve indicator, and I personally cannot pull off 47mm.

Two very different watches, you are comparing apples to oranges. The majority on Consensus will shift towards 127 simply because its a classic watch with less clutter on the dial along with the hefty 47mm case.

Other more stronger opinions will follow from the experts.

I had a 233 and felt whilst amazing value it was just too fussy for a Panerai. I went back to a 44 Base 112. If I had the funds and a big wrist I’d take a 127.

Difficult choice both are fantastic classic PAMs. I've owned two 233s both AM/PM and the dot dial (my preference of the two). However, I ended up selling both and now own a PAM 217, the sister watch to the 127. As mentioned above, I love the cleaner dial with all four numerals on the watch. I have a larger wrist, just under 8 inches so the 47mm case works for me. My vote would be for the 127.

As I own a 127, I guess I'm biased. However adding a 233 dot-dial to the collection one day remains likely.

Agree with others the 127 is classic if you can/want to pull off the 47mm size. I owned a 233 (dot dial) and while a great watch, I agree that it was a bit busier than I had anticipated for a PAM and ended up selling it after a couple years.

Recently picked up a PAM 911 and couldn’t be happier with the simplicity of the dial and the how well it wears. If you can try both in person (or a friend’s), that may be the best way to decide!

Great piece that green 911, like the 1056 as well — but looking specifically for model with the domed crystal. Also saw the 270, similar to 233?

I liked the 233 when first introduced. Back then (and now) the fiddy was very popular. I had a chance to put a 127 on my wrist when I was wearing my 232 for comparison. I preferred the 232. So... I think I'd go 233. If original logo base was in the mix that would be the one.

Have had a 127 and currently have a 233. Both are great but 233 is a better everyday wear for me.

Most Rolex owners choose (based on TRF responses) 233 vs the 127….however most panerai purists would suggest the 127.

I loved my 233 dot for years. I would consider a 127, as long as you can pull it off on your wrist. My wrist at 7” I think can support the 127 but the market price is a lot more than a preowned 233.

I happen to have both; I think that if your wrist size is sufficient, the 127 is the one to get. The proportions are really splendid on the watch. The 233 is a little "fussy" looking on the dial, as many have pointed out. But it actually is a great watch for everyday comfort (size..) and utility (8 day, gmt..).

Love the looks of the 127, but it was just too big to wear as an everyday watch. My 233 Dot has been on my wrist about 3 or 4 days a week for the past 2 years.

I have a 7 3/4 wrist and have owned the 127 Fiddy for many years. I remember when the 233 emerged. If you have the funds and wrist size to pull it off, the 127 is the peak of the Panerai desirability mountain and you’ll never regret it.

I think if you can only own one, it is the 233.

Hard to buy the 127 if you don't have the wrist for it.

The 233 and 127 are 2 of my top three Panerais (372 being the third and most affordable). Still debating if I can pull off a 47MM.
