Tudor finally changes name to the Black Bay Watch Company

And in other news the Black Bay Watch Company (formerly known as Tudor) releases 39 (yes really, 39!) new Black Bay models.

Oh I dunno, maybe something that wasn’t a Black Bay model? You know, something just to mix things up a bit perhaps?

I totally agree. Or an update to the Heritage Chrono, or a new Tudor Prince Date Chrono, or even a new Hydronaut. Or perhaps a new Fastrider, or a steel Pelagos, or even just a different colour Pelagos. Anything other than more and more BB variations.

Agree OP. Two things completely worn out by Tudor:
- The snowflake hands
- "Black Bay"

Absolutely, I’ve been saying this for years. How about something new. Get rid of those hideous snow flake hands. Yeah I know those hands say Tudor. They’re awful get rid of them & for all that is holy make something other than a Black Bay. How about a reissue of the 79190 submariner.

Tudor finally changes name to the Black Bay Watch Company

I have to agree with the black bay company jab. It would have been nice if the new Pro was a North Flag or Ranger iteration but hey, at least they knocked it out of the park this year.

Every other complaint on the thread though is plain silly. Rolex uses the Mercedes hands on every model just like Tudor. Rolex uses the Oyster case on every model except the Cellini. The only reason they’re not getting any flack is because of the big ol Crown and R on the dial which apparently absolves it of any faux pas.

I totally agree. To someone who's not into watches, the Submariner, GMT, and Seadweller all have the same design language. Most Tudors also have the same design language, they just call them all "Black Bay Something-or-Other" instead of having unique names.

I really wish Tudor put some love into a proper Day-Date. There are some really cool ones in their archives.

Good point. I guess Tudor is kind of trying to make Black Bay their equivalent of Oyster. Perhaps here though Black Bay also is more vintage inspired. My favorite Tudors though are in the modern/sport Pelagos line.

It's a valid point... a missed opportunity to revitalize the North Flag or Ranger heritage line, both would have be refreshing product additions. Instead, we just see the same movement and mostly the same cases or design aesthetic, all Black Bay, all Day.

Sadly all brands failed to impress this year. The GS releases look great but are still too thick (actually, surprisingly, the GS Spring Drive GMT is NOT as thick as the Tudor BB Pro!), but GS still meandering with hobbled bracelet/clasps. Omega is busy degrading and milking its Speedmaster in yet another money-grab effort (between the MoonSwatch and the '57 Speedmaster), VC releases an expensive PRX homage, and Patek leaves a lot to be desired too.

Back in 2012 when the BB was introduced, Tudor put out some press materials saying the name referred to "a fictitious hidden cove, which holds secrets that can only be discovered over time, step by step". So basically it's just made up nonsense. It might still be on the Tudor website somewhere, but they've probably ditched it by now.

Have you looked at the Tudor site?

Tudor has a lot of references already.

The BB motif is very popular.

You can't blame them for building on that market.
