Icon20 FNG from Cincinnati

Hi everyone! New guy here from Cincinnati. I’m learning about the world of watches and have fallen in love with a few. I’ve lusted after the submariner for as long as I can remember, a friend of my father had one and it always carried a certain fascination for me. I’ve never invested in anything more expensive than a high-end air integrated dive watch but after a few recent personal milestones I finally feel comfortable investing in a few pieces I’ve drooled on.

My favorite by far is the Rolex sub 126610ln but I’ve also fallen in love with the Omega AquaTerra small seconds, the Speedmaster sapphire sandwich, and the JLC Master Ultra Thin date. All for different purposes.

My primary purpose in joining the forum is to read, read, read, and learn. I seldom make a serious purchase without learning as much as possible. I’ve made useful connections with the local AD but don’t really hold out much hope for getting the call to purchase a sub that way. My decision point now is to learn how to navigate the secondary market so I don’t make a colossal mistake buying the sub or to start elsewhere, such as with the Omegas that are more readily available.

So, thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge. If I happen to come across you and your favorite watch in an airport somewhere I’m not the least little bit bashful about asking you your Rolex/Omega/JLC/other watch story. I seldom find that it’s a boring response.

Small world.

Hard to find a lot of watch enthusiasts in our parts, but occasionally you'll see something. I needed some bulk, so I opted for a SD43 over the Sub.

Welcome. In my 30 plus years of owning/collecting/flipping and overall watch fascination I have found the best way to do things is to dive in. Pun for the dive watch. TRF is a great resource and you can find a lot of information here. When it comes to buying, I would look to our Trusted Sellers and most have a website that you can compare prices and see what the market holds. Get on the phone, talk to them and ask questions and then decide where to start. Good luck and I look forward to seeing an incoming post in the future.

Thanks for the response herts9. I've considered the SD43 myself as an alternate to the sub but I find they're just as rare. I'd love to hear more about your journey to the SD and if you worked with an AD to get there or elsewhere. Learning how others started their journey has been one of my favorite parts of lurking on this forum before joining myself. -bms

Thanks Dan, I've been looking through the classifieds and learning a lot. I appreciate the encouragement to reach out and chat with them. As much as I'm reading other's stories about their journey I intend to post my own to help others.

PERFECT! :-)
We see posts where someone buys a watch and then posts here asking if it is real.
Or they made a purchase but got scammed out of their money.
Up front learning is the way to go.

Welcome to the forum, Brian!
