My 800th post and I found “THE ONE”!!

Rolexworld over on Instagram opened my eyes to my new favorite Rolex, my holy grail, the ultimate Rolex that sings directly to my heart!!

I snatched together some short info from various sources online on this bad boy:

Considering the Datejust debuted in 1945, this was a pretty advanced watch for Rolex at the time. The 6062 managed to marry a high-end complication, usually reserved for more delicate watches, with a sporty, waterproof Oyster case all while maintaining the everyday wearability we associate with Rolex.

The 6062 was produced in yellow gold, rose gold, and stainless steel, with two-tone silvered dials and sometimes, in rare cases, black ones. The gold models featured a series of dial configurations ranging from the "Stelline" (with stars as hour markers), the "Pyramid" (with triangular indexes at the quarter hours), darts (with arrow-head like indexes), diamond indexes (like the Bao Dai), and the 3-9 configuration. The steel 6062s only featured two-tone silvered dials with the 3-9 Arabic numerals in steel or yellow gold and luminous alpha hands.

The complications consist of the moonphase, the date, which is indicated by the outer chapter ring, and the day and month which are displayed in twin apertures at 12 o'clock. The watch itself is chronometer certified and this is indicated underneath the day and at the month. The case is your standard 36mm Oyster case with screw-down case back and inside is the automatic Rolex caliber 655.

Reference 6062 is one of only two Rolex models ever to feature a full calendar paired with the indication of the phases of the moon, together with reference 8171. Launched at the Basel fair in 1950 and in production for only a few short years, this reference was available in steel, yellow gold or pink gold.

Anyone on the forum that owns one of these bad boys?
Anyone else that is obsessed with this model?

John Goldberger has said this ref is the end-game for serious Rolex collectors. I think he talks about that in this podcast with Jake from RolexMagazine.com

Yes, he didn't state he'd bought it.

Save your pennies, LKJ. You'll need them for this one!

Isn't this the same reference as the famous Vietnamese Emperor "Bao Dai"?

Lovely piece indeed. I also like the simpler JCK chrono - 70% of the look and vibe... but lot lot cheaper ;-}

I can't wear yellow gold (thank goodness), but that SS JCK chrono is incredible. I'll have two, please!

Yep!
It’s actually number 2 on my list of vintage gold Rolexes I would desire only behind the super sexy gold 6263 Paul Newman Daytona.
