The real McCoy?

Hi - I’m new to the forum and looking to purchase a vintage Rolex. I’ve seen this one online and need some advice/reassurance. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I'm not seeing any obvious concerns based on that one photo.

Welcome..
I am guessing this is your first foray into Rolex, and are looking at the lowest price point for a somewhat modern watch. (Not pre WWII).
One of my first Rolex watches was an oyster date as well.

Dial looks original, case appears to be polished some.

Cons to this watch are:
This is a manual wind watch, if you only wear it on special occasions it's not a big deal but if you wear it every day it's much more of a hassle than if it were an automatic watch.

I believe the case will be 34 mm on this, small compared to a modern watch.

Parts might be a little more difficult to get, not impossible just not as easy.

If you move up to a Datejust, the case would be 36 mm and the movement would be automatic.

I agree. As lovely as that watch is, an automatic will be infinitely less of a hassle. If you are interested in Rolex quality but on a tighter budget, take a look at vintage Tudors (Rolex’s sister company). Some amazing finds and decent-ish prices.

A beautiful watch indeed. If you do not mind the sightly smaller size, it is great. I am surprised about the comments on having to wind the watch manually - come on guys - where is the spirit here???

Looks nice. There appears to be a lot of radium on that dial, though. I'd get a Geiger counter from Amazon and test it before wearing it for any length of time.

If it didn't have the screw down crown it wouldn't bother me.
But I've seen too many watches that have stripped threads.
