What “paper” does RSC send back
I don’t want to do this… but hypothetically, if one were to buy a watch that didn’t have “papers” from a reputable dealer (DSW) and you send it to RSC for service, what “paperwork” do they send back with the watch?
I know they send the new warranty card (see below) ![]() But do they give you a new card with model number, bracelet number, serial number? Do they record that you are the new owner of said watch/associate your name with the serial number? Or if you buy a watch without the original “card” is it lost and gone forever? If there are no original booklets, warranty booklets, etc is it easy to obtain? Or can you request to buy from RSC? I’ve got a few I’m looking at with full set. And one with box only that’s 17k cheaper. Discontinued, so I can’t go through AD. Has to be grey. |

No, but if you send it to RSC, you are the person recorded as the one who submitted it for service. Or if you buy a watch without the original “card” is it lost and gone forever? Yes If there are no original booklets, warranty booklets, etc is it easy to obtain? Relatively easy, but not cheap. Getting the right ones for your era of watch is fiddly if you aren’t well-versed on the various collateral materials. Or can you request to buy from RSC? You’d have to ask them - or maybe someone’s has done that - I’ve never done that. In sum, if this is a purchase you’ll keep for a lifetime then maybe lean towards a full-set purchase. But saving $17K? That isn’t going to be due to missing booklets/card - that watch will likely have mismatched parts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Thanks for the response.
I’m going to stick with the full set. It’s going to be a forever purchase. |

They actually send you two cards back now. One to keep for your records and one to send them when the watch goes back in for another service.

Every watch I’ve ever sold, traded or given away was a forever purchase.

If it was a forever keep I would be more inclined to save the 17k as the the box, papers, warranty card are less important to me. At the time of service you will get documentation of the service and a warranty. 17k is a lot of money to pay for the associated items that come with a watch. I have never seen DSW sell a parts watch or anything else that was not right.

No paperwork is worth 17k, so I might look into why this piece is listed at such a low price. All things equal, and looking at a lifetime keeper, get the best condition example you can find at the price you are willing to pay. You can't wear a box or card.

There are dealers who specialize in selling box and accessories. They aren't cheap but certainly not $17k worth.

In 2008 I sent my 1675 GMT-Master (purchased used without papers) to the New York RSC for service. It came back looking brand new with a one year warranty printed with my name, the service reference number, the serial number of my watch and a document listing what was done during the service. IMHO this was worth a lot more than original box and papers.
My 16710 GMT II, also purchased used, is currently being serviced by the NY RSC, and it'll be interesting to see how the documentation may have changed since 2008.

I’ll eventually send my pre-owned watches in for service. Would be nice to get the paper with that on there. That said, I’m looking at 2 watches right now with full sets, outer boxes, the works. That will make 3 Rolex for my collection if I can snag them, and all with everything original. Which means something to me. But I will wear them all. No safe queens here. |
