Oh Dear!

My wife has had her Ladies Datejust 26mm for nearly 10 years now and wears it 24/7, I bought it for her as a Christmas present for 2012. Having a small wrist she likes it very much! The white gold bezel still sparkles in the light!
But we had an unfortunate accident today in that I bumped into her, caught her off balance, she tripped and down she went.
She is OK but in trying to save herself the palm of her hand is a bit sore but part of the fall was taken by the bracelet and hasp of the watch. The bracelet has been distorted and will not close.
So it'll be a trip down to the Rolex SC at West Malling end of week for a sort out and it's first service.
I guess I will need a sackload of dough in a few weeks!

That's very interesting, but my problem was not due to any heroic fight!
So, I am not holding my breath but I'll let you know how I get on!

The important thing is that she is well. The Rolex will be fixed, and will be back in perfect condition to be used for many many years to come.

I would love to see a thread titled "I got a clasp bent in a fight" rather than some of the recent drivel around here.

Glad she's ok, and after 10 years it needed serviced and pressure tested anyway. Will come back looking and working as good as they day you gave it to her.

Glad your wife is OK.
Similar thing happened to a friend of ours.
They removed the trampoline from the bedroom.

I had to double read this post when I saw a reference to West Malling. I spent my teen years living close by in Leybourne but moved away around 35 years ago. Very cool to see Rolex has a UK head office in this beautiful part of the UK.

And sorry to hear about your wife’s watch!

At least your wife is ok

Can you not just bend the clasp back into its correct shape?

Had the chance yesterday to drop in the watch at the RSC and handed it over to a person at their Reception.
The watch is 10 years old so asked them to do an overhaul and pointing out the obvious that the clasp/buckle was damaged and there was undue play in the crown winder. the person agreed and in addition mentioning that on winding it felt 'gritty' but the watch was beautiful none the less.
On leaving I was given a magnificient hardbacked 1" thick Rolex catalogue with price list. (Black date sub £8050.00) and I did ask if they had any spare Rolex on the shelf available for sale and with a quite emphatic, they replied, no they did not!

Today by email I received the quotation.
The Rolex watch analysis: Specks on dial (dust?), bracelet scratched, clasp/buckle scratched, clasp/buckle damaged, case scratched, bezel scratched, case back scratched.
The total price: £830.80 ($1016.14) inc. 20%VAT
Oh! Dear!
But I will be proceeding of course as it is my Wife's watch!
The approx delivery time is 52 days and interestingly there is a caveat that they do not guarantee the authenticity of a time piece.
My Wife is currently wearing my old Certina waterproof date manual wind watch made according to the serial numbers in 1957, I actually purchased the watch in a Swiss hotel I was staying about 1962. Still going well in fact the wearer quite likes it (phew!) but is much looking forward to 8 weeks time!

Or

“Bond surveyed his weapons. They were only his hands and his feet, his Gillette razor and his wristwatch, a heavy Rolex Oyster Perpetual on an expanding metal bracelet. Used properly, these could be turned into most effective knuckle busters.”

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Sounds a reasonable quote to me after10 years and the damaged clasp. She will get it back as good as new to enjoy for many years to come.

That’s not a bad estimate at this stage of the game with that watch. Proceed and enjoy a new looking watch when it is finished.

I’m glad she’s ok! That’s the most important thing. Many years ago I got tripped up playing basketball. As I was going down I tried to shift my body to protect my watch and broke my elbow instead. Learned never to sacrifice the body for the watch under any circumstances.

I’m certain the watch will be serviced and fixed and she’ll be able to enjoy it for many more years. You might actually need a good dough for that but most importantly be grateful she’s okay

Many thanks for all your comments!
My Wife's fall (a trip) suffered luckily a bruise and light graises and is perfectly OK now.
I attach a photo of the 1957 Certina watch (with it's £10 Casio watch bracelet) the case design of which is typical of the period but can still hold it's own today!
I have signed the quotation and posted of so only can now wait (8 weeks) my Wife in eager anticitation not liking a comparitively large watch on a slight wrist!
