AD Allocation Scuttlebutt

It's been about a decade since last posting here. Good to be back, the place hasn't changed a bit!

Back in March I stopped at the AD to pick-up some Birthday gifts. The SA I work with let me know the shipments were coming in at a good clip, two per month since the first of the year. I was back about two weeks ago for more gifts. The SA reported only one shipment arrived in April. She was expecting the shipments to pick-up again in May with a chance they could be larger.

Has anyone out there seen the same thing since the first of the year? This predates the Ukrainian conflict (Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!) and China lockdown. Do you think allocations originally earmarked for Russia and China will make their way to other markets?

For the first time in two years I walked into my preferred AD and their display cases were for the most part full with both new and used inventory. They had a Yacht Master and a Sub and a DSSD among others. They had signs in the cases that said Display Models Only but the DSSD was running as I pawed it with my grubby mitts. I could’ve walked out the door with it if I had the money. Definitely a change over previous visits.

I think the diversion of stock from Russia (several AD's) and Ukraine (1 AD) IS making a difference, as is Rolex production being back to some semblance of normal. I had heard China was going nuts over Covid again.

Inflation is also diverting dollars elsewhere, and the crypto convulsion might be giving the young Instagram flexing crowd pause. It's probably a good time to request a watch from an AD.

Hopefully next time I post it'll be with pictures of my next watch.

I try to keep things in perspective. It's a Rolex I'm waiting for, not a kidney.

You need to actually read through some threads; actually, just the titles would do. This place is nothing like it was a decade ago! ....damn, I miss old TRF

- JJ Irani commentary
- "Is it safe to swim in the ocean with my Rolex?"
- "Is it safe to take a bath?"
- "Here's my franken-GMT, what do you think?"

That stuff?

Weird what seemed aggravating at one time would be a welcomed relief at another. I can't imagine what we will be discussing here in 10 years to make we yearn for a good ol' "what's my watch worth" or "how do I kiss my AD's butt" thread

AD Allocation Scuttlebutt

My AD gets shipments on the same day weekly. That particular day the store director and SA's schedules overlap. That's when I strike

One thing I've learned from working with this place for 3-4 years is the SAs don't have much say in your watch allocation... but a good SA is a strong advocate for convincing the store to sell to you if something comes in. Being there in person has made all the difference. It trumps mini-whales but not massive whale buyers (aka overseas grey dealers).

I visited my local AD on the Saturday, they just got their "display" models in, to my surprise they are fully functioning watches not like the ones I'd seen before. All cases had watches are "for display only" signage along with the tags on the watches stating "not for sale"on them it was kind of nice to see the buzz in the store again.

It may be true that allocations are coming in at a good clip but there are still way more buyers than watches, especially for the steel sport models so the wait continues. I suspect much of what comes in is already spoken for.

Indeed, they actually offered it to me for sale on that visit. And the following Friday (the 13th) the SA called me to follow up on that conversation to again offer it to me.

I'd made noises in the past about wanting one but the timing is bad now so I passed both times.

Eh, apparently they weren't all display watches. As I said they had signs in the case that said Display Watches Only but at least one of them, the DSSD that I handled, while among them was not one of them.
