Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665-Rubber Strap Option

I had been looking for a while for a perfect-fit rubber strap for my 1665, and I finally found one. The Rubber B strap that is advertised as fitting the 16660s also works very well on the 1665s. Just because a strap is 20mm doesn't mean it will work well on an old Sea-Dweller because of the thickness of the case. The Rubber B thickness works very well with the curve of the lugs. I hear the Everest bands are also great, but I don't know how well they fit vintage models. Both brands are relatively pricey, but if you want that seamless, curved-end fit, you don't have much of a choice.

Thanks for this post I have 1665 that I have owned for 25 years and I have been looking for rubber strap on and off for a while. Its nice to know that someone has tested and verified one that fits correctly

Dear swish77 - the pictures of your watch with the RubberB strap made me want one too!

Do you remember the exact model number of the strap you acquired?

No, but the company's website should make it clear which one you need.

Since this posting, way back in 2015, I've gotten a different rubber strap that I prefer, by Vanguard. It seems a little softer and has more holes on the strap for a better fit. It's also a lot cheaper and the quality is just as good, IMHO.

Thank you, swish77, for your reply. Based in Europe, I was trying to order the RubberB strap through a dealer in Europe who uses product codes for the straps - and the RubberB site shows no codes - and according to the dealer the current manufacturer's lineup does not have one that would fit the 1665 as the one in your pics.

Will check Vanguard, thank you for the tip.

I fully agree. The Tropic looks better on a vintage watch.

The old 22522 straight and 22580 curved edge Tropics are what are being mentioned - when I was buying pieces in the early 70s they were available (for the impoverished Rolex/Tudor buyer) for 10 shillings or 50p, or around 0.35 dollars/35 cents, as an alternative to a a £50-80 bracelet. They came on a free acier or inox steel buckle
Even ten years ago they'd sell for £15-25 - now buyers are asking £150-400...better investment than the watch therefore that they accompanied;-}
Sold my last unused one about 5 years ago for £175 !!

Very nice.

Health to enjoy.

[EDIT] I just realised this is a 'zombie' thread... but, health to enjoy anyway.
