Is this oil? Humidity?

Hi everyone,

I have this Gilt stored in a watch case for over a year after purchase. it has never been worn or used. Was moving it from box to box and noticed this (pics below). Could anyone tell me what could be? Is the dial damaged (gilt)?

Forgot to specify where. Althought is clear to see. It's on the center where hands meet and on the corner of 1 an 2 plot.

It’s not uncommon for later gilt to have some aging of the lacquer around the edge. The center post would make me wonder if it was possibly over oiled during a previous service. It also appears to have speckled appearance across the dial. Did it not look anything like this a year ago?

It is hard to say what happened to the dial without seeing it in person, but one possibility is that someone attempted touch up or repair a defect to the lacquer finish and now, after sitting undisturbed for a year, the repair didn't work out too well.

Be careful with those vintage lacquer dials. Many have been refinished and many have been refinished poorly.

Yeah both of your statements could be it. I'm sending it next week to my watchmaker. I'll keep you updated. Hope is oil, and removable. To answer 1watch: a year ago did have the speckled dial, yes, but not this.

With the pics I posted (I tried my best) you can't see clearly what it is. In person kinda looks like oil. However on the edge of the dial there are some dots which makes me wonder....

Anyway there are a few possibilities. You both stated well.
