Last night was yet further "yard work".
Pressure washed the deck and then scrubbed it with anti moss and lichen fungicide...took hours!!!!!!!! Have to wash it again tonight to spray off the chemicals and let it dry overnight. Saturday morning it's time for the first coat of natural oak stain and protect rubbish...I've lazied out tho, I've picked up one of those deck applicators (sponge on a broom handle)....I haven't got the patience and attention span to paint it with a brush. Been thinking about what David said about using it as an exercise plan...today it feels as though the Devil has been using my hamstrings as harpstrings!!!!!!! I need a holiday! J |

Jim: I think you should build an extension on to the deck, with roof, stairs, new lighting, the whole '10 yards'. by the end of the summer you'll be fit as a fiddle!
meantime, an old friend dropped by from Sacramento, California..haven't seen him for at least 7 or 8 yrs. and he's crossing the USA (not in his Chevrolet), but this: |

Wow thats kinda like a testosterone and nitro fuelled version of Straight Story.
Dan it's funny you should say that....my project begins once the drive, deck and lawn maintainence is done. We are building William a mini Britsih Army Outpost and sitting it in the corner on the deck. My niece is now too old for her timber Wendy house and my brother was going to scrap it. Old hoarder here had a quick measure and quickly drew something up on Cad...it's going to have a raised lookout section coming from the roof and a couple of other enhancements....then I'm going to stain it in camoflage colours and cover it in camo nets etc. It was going to go on stilts with an escape hatch and chute/silde but Claire has put the kibosh on that...bah! I will keep you all updated as to when it starts and how it's going! Jim (It's for William but it will also be my retreat for cigars and frozen margheritas!!!!!) |

That's very cool. For a while my sister was thinking about that same bike (?). I don't know if she ever did get one though. She never got really comfortable on 2 wheels herself and has been riding pillion since getting her license. Looks like it would be great for long distance travel.

Mornin' Bill. Happy Friday! I have the day off today. Lieu time I had coming to me. Al is leaving shortly because he has a course to go to. I'm gonna drink extra coffee for a change, head to the mall to return something, do about 5 loads of laundry and perhaps squeeze a little reading in. Tonight we're going out for dinner. We have about $200 in restaurant gift cards sitting here that need to be used so it's time to dip into that a bit. Hope the day treats you well.

9.55am???? It's 3pm here and almost time for me to go home and start washing the deck again!!!!!!!!!!
Rain due in K.L tomorrow about 2pm, so it's gonna be an early start...if I can get the deck stained by ten am that leaves 4 hours drying time (2nd coat due) but I'll put that off until Sunday morning. Just hope it dries out fully overnight!!!!!! Jeez I'm busy right now! Leo...am I hell fixing the garage...that needs new trusses and retiling...it can wait. J |

Garage roof is fine. Been stood for years and will continue to do so. Expensive job and we need the money elsewhere.
You forget good sir what my trade is, add to that the generations of builders in my family I'm pretty sure I know a suspect structure when I see one! William's playhouse will be about £150 max. timber material, stains, replacement toughened glazing for window...few toy guns and map prints etc. Garage I think will be at least £1500. Remove existing asbestos rain water system and discard according to health and safety regs, strip roof tiles, verges and ridge, remove old timber roof members, remove existing wallplates and replace, provide new fink trusses at 600mm centres, refelt (possibly with breathable vapour permeable membrane, retile, repoint verges, replace rw system and soffits and fascia with new plastic goods!!!!!! Too big a job for me and my wallet right now. It doesn't bear thinking about!!!!!! ![]() |

Jim, I'm glad to hear that you put your family first. Sounds like you have your priorities straight. William will only be young once and before you know it he will be grown and off to college!!!
