Rolex submariner durability

It's a dive watch. Most dive watches are built like brick houses or tanks.

Friend of mine has worn a Sea Dweller for 20 years at work always around machinery, tools, etc. When I took a look at it, it appeared normal to my eyes. It looked great. He said it's the best and most durable watch he ever owned.

I think its simply a case of applying common sense. Yes these watches are well designed and built, but like anything they can end up being damaged or abused even unintentionally. If used for what they were originally designed for, then no drama at all, but for something where there is a much higher risk of damage, there is always a readily available much cheaper option.

Thanks for sharing. That's interesting to know. I remember for years Phil was wearing a manual-wind Cellini for playing. I think the rationale was no winding rotor to take damage. I guess Phil and Rolex must be wanting to showcase the newer references now.

You must be a Rolex newbie. After wearing Rolex's for 40+ years my brain is subliminally tuned to avoiding everything with my left hand. I have hit them but probably less than once a year and I can provide a date stamp for every mark.

I wear mine daily. Try to keep it nice but for as much as I paid I am using it for what it is. Its been on deployments, knocked on the metal bulkheads of US Navy ships, low crawled through the dirt, swim with it daily, conduct vehicle maintenance. Yes, it has a few scratches on the band but just adds to the appreciation of wearing a great watch that is durable and has personal history. No marks or scratches on the crystal. Will probably be my only Rolex in life but maybe someday I get one for show and special nights out, but not yet.

Searching…I know older thread. Just pulled trigger. I had some fancy gift Louis Faragomo leather jacket that sat in the closet for years. This Sub is not sitting in a box. I’m too old to care. I’m going to put it to the test (landscape/contractor) and have Dang fun doing so. Stoked. Oh, and it will see the water, not in a shower. Cheers!

I mentioned this thread in another post about how tough Rolex are, finally found it.

I remember this thread, member froze his Rolex in solid ice then tossed it into boiling water that he was using to make seafood, can't find the video, but here's the thread.

90% I wear it on NATO's and 10% on the 97200 glidelock I got for it.

Treat it like a G shock, it keeps up with life just fine.









It's fully brushed and lives a nice active lifestyle.

I recently sold my 114060 after nearly 10 years of daily wear, I’m careful with my watches but do not baby them, it never missed a beat in all the time. You have picked an amazing watch wear and enjoy.

It's very durable as a tool watch, but i would say you still wear with care.

I might save a world time for special occasions, a sub isn’t that watch. It’s very durable, it can withstand whatever you throw at it.

Why do I feel like the 3130 is more durable than the 3135? I think my 16610 has a bad rotor axle again after having it replaced during service five years ago, and I haven’t even worn the Sub much in the past few years. In contrast, my Explorer was worn for years without any rotor noise until I sent it for its proactive service.
