Strategy for a dial swap 16570

I have a Black Dial 16570 that I'd like to swap out for a White Dial as I don't have any White dials in the collection.

I've read that Rolex charges about $450 to swap the dial but does not return the original dial.

The price for a preowned or new 16570 dial can be very expensive so here's an idea I have.

What if I buy a pretty inexpensive black dial and swap it with my OEM dial, then send to Rolex for a service and dial change. Figuring they are going to keep the Black dial that they swap out the White for.

Any idea what it would cost to do the dial swap before sending it in to RSC?

They may just send the watch back given the counterfeit dial. If they do replace it, it will likely be a black one, as your scheme is pretty easy to detect.

Sounds like a lot of work, just spend the 450 and be done with.

Talk to your RSC. Depending on the country you can definitely get back your original dial.

Does RSC allow for this? I remember seeing other posters mention here that they wont do a colour switch, will only replace with the same colour?

If they allow it then what's stopping people from buying say an undesirable black dial OP and switching the dial for a turquoise or yellow dial?

I'd not send a counterfeit dial!

I agree and doubt it even happens. It's not the $450. I just don't want to give up the original dial.

From what I have read they do allow this but will keep the original dial. Can't speak to color dials but for this model I know it's done..There's a recent thread here where the member sent back a 16570 Black Dial and they did a service, and changed the dial for $450..I don't think they returned the black OEM dial.

I will call RSC and see what I can find out. Obviously much rather just do that!

Nope, I had it done recently at RSC Dallas. No problem went from black to white for $550.00. They kept the old dial.

Thanks for the post. Right, that's what I am figuring too and won't do it if I have to give them the original dial.

RSC will let you retain your original dial for a modest amount of money.

That's not a bad idea but I want the Black dial that came with the watch. I'll call RSC and see what they say.

is it not possible to purchase an authentic white dial and have a trusted watchmaker do the replacement? cut off RSC from the picture.

That was sort of the idea.

Yes that was my first idea of course..But white dials in good shape for that watch are very expensive from what I found.

It appears RSC does it for around $500 which would be ideal.

I'll call them in the next week or so to find out.

Ah I see.... I wasn't aware of the wide discrepancy in pricing; I sincerely hope it works out for you. I love Rolex as much as the next guy, but certain aspects of customer service is severely lacking from the brand.

Why make customers jump through so many hoops for reasonable changes? I've limited experience with Swatch Group brands....but from what I've experienced with them so far at least- they really do go above and beyond and deliver on the customer service aspect to retain your business.

Keeping your original OEM dial is more than a reasonable request, not sure why it can't be accommodated. I hope RSC gives you an affirmative answer.

Many RSC also refuse to do a dial swap unless the watch has been recently serviced.

I bought the 16570 in 2001. Never been serviced but figured if I can get RSC to swap the dial, might as well do a service.

Did a test on it just to see how well it's keeping time...It ran 47 hours sitting in the case and the accuracy was as good or better than any of the watches in my collection! I had expected it to be losing or gaining significant time.

That being said, I'd still have it serviced if I can figure this out with RSC and maybe getting another black dial. It's a silly waste of time I admit but..that never stopped me !

That’s only for watches that are still under the 5 year warranty.

Keep in mind that depending on the serial, the watch may have come with actual papers (not a card) that indicates what dial color was originally installed on your 16570. You may not care, but if you do swap dial colors, the papers won’t exactly match.

There are a few RSC, mostly in Europe, who will order parts for you without having the watch in hand and don't require a dial swap.

Yes of course. Bought this watch 20 years ago and would not do the dial swap unless I keep the original.

I'll see what RSC has to say or I'll get a 226570 Polar and move on and have both!
