You don’t say whether buying those other choices might help you to be offered the Rolex sooner. The Tudor is nice but the Explorer II is steps ahead. I love the history of the Moonwatch and that is why I went with the Hesalite version. Get the Omega (and try for a discount) now and wait for the Explorer. |

Explorer II hands down. I prefer the white after owning both.

This is a heck of a difficult question....My initial thought was wait for the Explorer II - black or white are both amazing. One of the best watches ever made. I wore one for years and regret parting with mine...but I'm on the list for another one. In the interim I picked up the new Speedmaster Professional (hesalite) and I've been blown away with this watch.
My recommendation...get on the list for a Polar Explorer II, then go pick up a Speedy. Submariner, Polar Explorer II and a Speedy would be a killer trio. |

At one point i owned all 3, but recently sold the Tudor. The Speedy and GMT were no substitute for my Polar. In fact after the Moonswatch debacle, I have not worn the Speedy again. Probably gifting it to my daughter.

Go Explorer II and call it a day. I’d rather have one great piece than a couple good ones. The Exp II polar is one of my favorite references.

Go for the Explorer II. I've had Black and currently wear Polar. Either one is great.

Explorer II is an excellent watch. The black and white dials are very different. Considering many watches have dark dial options the polar dial was a no brainer.

Isn't the alternative to the Explorer II the Tudor BB Pro? Personally I would say to add the moonwatch is a no-brainer. But I'm not feeling the Tudor GMT. Maybe the speedmaster + the Tudor Pro. But if you are going to associate the watch with a life event, i feel like it should be 1 watch and not 2. So I'd still go with a Rolex Explorer all things being equal. Second choice would be either just the speedmaster or just the Tudor Pro, i think you'll be happy either way. For the Rolex, don't settle for the color. You have to try it on your wrist. There are exhibition models in an AD somewhere, you just have to look for it.

Buy what you really want, don’t fall into a logic trap and settle.

I'm starting to see mint condition black dial last gens trade for LESS than MSRP+sales tax. If you don't mind preowned, this maybe the way to go. Otherwise, just be patient, I think these may come down to around MSRP+Tax plus a very small premium in grey market for BNIB. |

Don’t settle. That’s my experience. It costs more to go back and get what you really want, every time. Choose wisely.
