Worth using common sense in any place but let’s not create false equivalencies with places like SF, which has way more aggressive bums and much sparser law enforcement

I don't know NY since I've only been once but SF is a city I never liked for a myriad of reasons but had to drive through dozens of times to get to the airport.

That being said "bums" are not the ones stealing and mugging people for their watches.

Right, the targeting of AP/RM/etc is more coordinated than that. All I’m saying is, the level of danger on the streets here just isn’t at the SF level. Foot traffic much higher density which means you typically have witnesses, the car traffic is mostly 25 mph max which makes getaway tough, cops are more visible and numerous, homeless are fewer in number and less aggressive.

Of course you could be robbed or victimized anywhere, but this isn’t like SF. And unfortunately most NYPD just play on their phones all day and are fairly rude to most who need their assistance. But at least they are visible in public areas.

But on a positive note about NYC and other big cities and metro areas...

Visited NYC many a time for a weekend with friends and take in a show or two.

And in my youth spent a summer in subletting a coop in alphabet city and hoofing it to Madison Avenue to wait tables. Lived in other major cities as well.

And one thing I can tell you is that the upside is culture, places to eat, things to do, the arts, and just a whole bunch of people with neat and differing perspectives from your own. Love living on my compound in the foothills. But it takes 15 minutes one way for me to get pizza takeout. Forget about upscale places to eat. And fresh bread? Not unless we bake our own. Medical care? Zoom with providers or be prepared for a lengthly trip. Diversity of people? Not unless you mean Ford vs. Chevy trucks or John Deere or Kabota hats.

Not to mention how far I have to drive out of my zip code to visit an AD.

And where I younger and not self employed, cities and metro areas are king for economic opportunity. Part of the reason many leave rural areas when they grow up.

But you take the good with the bad. More people, more problems. More bad actors. To me, it is largely a numbers issue.

Happy where I live. Would not trade our privacy and slow pace for the world. But there are advantages to big city life. And sometimes I would just like to be able to walk down the street and get a loaf of bread. Always pros and cons with every place.

For the people that have been wearing Rolex for a long time. Are these warnings new or have they always been there? It’s not an issue where I live, so not something I really think about. I will, however, be in Nola soon for fun and don’t plan to bring a Rolex but mostly because I’ll be hammered and making terrible decisions.

The intensity and frequency of strong arm/violent robberies in LA has gone way up. I do not wear my watches out anymore as it just doesn’t feel worth it. Used to wear a Rolex to surf and go to every part of the city most of the past decade. It’s different now for sure.

Right so I’ll change it. If you live in New York where there are 15M penthouses, it’s fine. SF in general, still the worst.
