No doubts about those fair opinions on the sound. It’s a paradigm shift for me.

My friends ran the Jetta Cup some years back and those diesels were quiet - all you heard was whooshing and maybe tire chirping.

Technical Tuesday!

They're the only things touching the ground (well, if we exclude the floor during porposing ) and those who can master what they are doing will be rewarded. Tires or tyres for others.

This 10 min. video starts out a little basic but gets nerdy by the end. It also explains the technical regulation changes that F1 has implemented this year and will continue to implement up until 2024. Hope you enjoy!

Formula E gets worse and worse. I watched the 1st NYC race. The dopes doing the announcing are rambling on, I don’t know what feed they’re watching as there a crash they don’t see. A few seconds later, maybe someone is snapping their fingers and pointing at the screen?, they realize someone crashed, not exactly sure who…
The nonsense continues. They make close racing and takeovers sound boring. Oh x is in the second now, he must have passed y. Omg.
Then the final insult, the big crash. They barely cover it, can’t figure out who crashed, etc. and finally “we’ve run out of time so make sure to look online and see who won”. Only to go off the air to cover … a strongman competition. WTF? I give up.
Premier racing, the only all electric series, in the home country, championship up for grabs, and it gets bumped off the air to watch a bunch of big and tall shoppers pick things up and put them down.
You can’t make this crap up! They could have races in NYC, LA, Chicago and Miami and nobody would watch in the US. Strongman probably had more reliable ratings and advertising income.

With the wacky rules of FE(h), I think what might reduce the confusion is to use AR in the video production side. Within the off-line pass thingie have AR add in Mario Brothers spinning gold coins and the cah-ching sound when 'activated' by a car. I really think using AR could make FE(h) more relatable to the kids.

Sorry, not for me tho. My wife said it sounds like old-timey slot cars. I made it to lap 4 or 5, then moved on. Sorry, just not for me. But think about the use of AR.

Toto just being Toto.... he must have a short memory as there was a certain team that had a large performance gap up until last year.... Also, it's not a performance gap as much as a reliability gap as Ferrari has the car to compete and has won the last 2 races, but their reliability and team pit wall strategy isn't on par with others. I wouldn't consider a team like Mercedes to be a mid pack team running in no man's land as they are consistently on the podium.

Anyway, French GP this weekend. Hot, hot, hot temperatures but a very flat, smooth surface which should result in less porposing. Mercedes has brought some upgrades and the smoother tarmac "should" give them a little more performance to match their unbelievable reliability. HAM/RUS are the only drivers to not retire this year (11 races each).

I cannot bring myself to believe he is this out of touch with reality (or the past) but he continues to make me consider it. Truly unbelievable.

Again, F1 continues to dwindle downward.

Correction: HAM is the only driver to have not DNFed in 2022. Forgot RUS was not allowed to continue the British GP after he got out to help Zhou and his car wouldn't fire back up.

The Official Formula One Thread!

It is the strangest looking track methinks. But it also led the way for imitators

I think COTA is similar in wide pavement punctuated by lots of painted runoffs. From above they take the cake in busy dizzy graphics.

The other unique aspect is blue zone paint is abrasive and allows a driver to maintain some level of grip while sliding. This helps keep the race from going in SC or VSC neutralization.

That red zone you see is super abrasive surface as a car gets closer to a collision with the tecpro. However, the tires are toast if you can continue.

Shifting gears, the only US driver in F2 (Logan Sargent) aced Qually yesterday.
The sprint race could be a scorcher - if you dislike the formulaic team head games in F1 - it may be a refreshing one to watch at Noon today (EDT) on ESPN3.

My wife likes the track look.

From the helmet cam, as a driver it's clearly laid out, with off-track painted bits being easy to see... and clear to see run-off / escape areas too.

That's because Hamilton is the one CAUSING other drivers to crash/DNF by forcing them off the track when they try to pass him

j/k - all in good fun

LeClerc's mistake today aside, can we just go ahead of give the driver of the day after each race to a Ferrari driver? They have to overcome 18 other drivers on track, the Ferrari pit wall strategy and their factory car reliability issues every weekend. It's the same story over and over again....

When is somebody at Ferrari, higher up the food chain than Binotto, going to say, "Enough is enough" and find more competent strategists.

I’m sorry. If the first person that needs to go at Ferrari, it’s Mattia effing Binotto!
Poor leadership from the beginning of the season until now. As much as Horner is toxic, he’s got leadership. RB knew that Max is their key driver to win the WDC and they prioritise him hard! Even the RB18 development has gradually moved towards Max’s preference hence Checo’s recent struggles with the car since they introduced the new updates.

Until today, Ferrari still has no clear Number 1 driver. Silverstone strategy was a disaster. Monaco another disaster. Barcelona and Baku both victories thrown into the drain because the car was unreliable. If it wasn’t Sainz’s penalty due to new ECU/PU, he would have fought Leclerc at the front despite 37 points behind. Would Mattia have the balls to call number 1 and 2? Doubt it!

Todt and Brawn were brave to make tough decision. Wasn’t pretty, but 5x world champion is better than looking like clowns each week
