My iPhone 3GS Review

I'm stuck on the computer waiting on a download, so I thought I'd do a little side by side review of the phones after having the 3G for almost a year. 3GS is on the left in all pics...

The 3GS box is a little smaller than the 3G...

Cases are virtually identical. On the 3GS, the writing towards the bottom of the phone is more noticeable (I compared mine to a 3GS black in the store)

Screen quality is similar. The 3GS has an oleophobic screen, which means it repels oils and fingerprints. At first I wasn't impressed, but after taking my 3G screen protector off and comparing the two, it's a pretty big difference.

Stuff inside the box is just about the same. SIM tool, charger, headphones. The headphones are slightly different with a larger mic clicker.

-The new headphones have a nicer fit and the mic clicker is improved.

-The speakerphone is improved (but I think it could still be better).

-The camera is greatly improved, as we have seen on the other thread (but zoom would be nice).

-The video feature works well. I made a short video and replayed on the phone, and quality was fine. It also allows a direct YouTube upload. It's 640x480 resolution, so it may not look so great on the computer.

-Nike + compatibility is a welcome improvement

-Voice control leaves something to be desired. Even speaking slowly and clearly, it wouldn't call the correct person.

-The processor is much faster. There is no lag when rotating the screen or opening apps. Web is faster as well.

-Battery life is excellent and I like the percent remaining feature.

-Other features (cut and paste, landscape text input) are great and available with the 3.0 software.

-New compass feature (haven't used turn by turn GPS yet)

All in all, it's a good improvement over the 3G. The remaining thing I'm looking forward to is MMS...

Nice review, Jen. You beat me to it.

One note, Voice Memo is the application to record voice memos. Voice Control is the feature to voice dial, play a song, etc...

Nice review Jen. I am new to the iPhone world and love mine. I hope the battery life is decent. If I can get through the day on just one charge, then it's good for me.

Don't you need the 3GS first?
