BLNR gray premium question

Is there is a price point where these come down on the secondary market (15k ish?) that makes the margins squeeze a bit to free up some supply for the commoners like myself at retail?

At some point yes. The pendulum swings in both directions.

If you're talking about you getting this watch at retail. Probably like a year after it hits $11k market, you'll start seeing it in stores.

Your personal chance... it's highly YMMV.

When I got my 116710BLNR, it was 4 years after the initial release. The market price was just a little more than the retail at the time, think market + tax. Yet it still wasn't just sitting in shop windows like it was stocked regularly. We had to call around and wait a couple weeks for one to come in.

The list now is backed up way way way too long. But they're also producing more than ever. If you look in Rolex's catalog, this is also one of the cheaper and more attainable men's watches at $10k so demand will remain high.

I don't know how much production Rolex increased. But it looks like everything including two tone is still out of stock.

For a lawyer like yourself, just consider your billable and how much time you've been wasting on trying to get one. I'm sure market price will look cheap when you ask yourself what your actual time is worth.

The Grey Market and the Secondary Market are not the same thing.

In the Secondary Market, buyers drive the price, it doesn't matter what the sellers "margin" is. If they want to sell, they can only sell to a buyer willing to pay a certain price.

If they bought high, they may need to sell lower than their cost or hang onto it.

I am really struggling with this as I want to buy the Batman.

If there is any chance my patience will be rewarded, I am ready and willing with the cash.

That being said, would be happy to pay some level of premium to a gray, but I don't know any reliable ones (I am new to this world). Up to a $4K premium works...

Currently the premium seems to be down to around $7k....still not impressed...for $7K could buy a Omega Speedy and it would keep me busy until the AD comes thru...

I don’t know. Sea dweller and Explorer Ii are already pretty much at retail plus tax and you still can’t just go get one of those at the AD.

Is it about the money or the watch? For me it is about a balance but I gave up AD games and wait lists years ago for Rolex watches. We have a very good number of Trusted Sellers here on TRF and most have a site separate from TRF. Do your research and see where you would be on a purchase from one of them. Get on the phone and call and have a discussion. Most, if not all, will answer your questions and discuss pricing and availability. As far as buying a Speedmaster to hold until your Rolex shows up is nice and it is a great watch but it still leaves you wanting the Rolex. I would pay more for the Rolex, hold off on the Speedy, get my watch and begin the ownership experience. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
