I tried on a 36 first but thought it looked lost on my wrist, so I plumped for the 40 instead.

6.75 flat top wrist

I have a 36 and 40 day dates. Lately wear the 36 more, 7.5 inch wrists. Both are supremely comfortable, and you won’t go wrong either way.

36 is the classic size and proportion and will always look right, imo. The larger size was a response (already embarrassingly revised once) to a fad that will probably not age well.

I say stick to the original—the classic—the tried and true.

Recently tried-on a DD36 that caught my eye at the AD. It looked so good on my 6.9" wrist. The whole package was perfect: size, slate dial, rose gold, baguette diamonds.

Quoting the That's what she said's meme...

I could be wrong, but do they both have the same dial diameter? The rest being made of extra spoilers like ricer cars.

Honestly the DD36 looked quite massive and heavy to me. Haven't checked d the DD40 tough

To me, personally, this illustrates the difference between "too big" and "too big on you" perfectly.

You can clearly pull off a 40mm watch w/o it looking like a dinner plate, no question. That watch is not too big on you. However, the DD just doesn't look right at 40mm (to me).

Thanks, Danny.

It was also to illustrate that wrist circumference is useless to gauge whether a watch will fit correctly.
The diameter is the important factor. I have a small circumference, but a wide diameter, therefore I can pull off larger lug to lug watches easier.

All my own opinion of course. One man’s saucer is another man’s dinner plate.

An excellent point as well .

Even comes down to how one's wrist is rotated. When rotated outward, my wrist (assuming others' as well) flattens significantly, vs when I rotate inwards, like to check the time, it's thicker/narrower looking.

It's quite analogous to watch diameter not telling the whole story, and dial-to-bezel ratio being at least as important. 40mm rotating bezel watches look "right" while (IMO) those that are mostly dial (IWC pilot pieces a good example) look huge. Same reason a YM37 wears smaller than a DJ/DD/OP36.

I agree with those here that 36 is the classic and that it’s not too small. I mean Tony Soprano and LBJ were not small men and it looked great. I just was wondering if the 40 was the more modern take with the larger size, more dial options and upgraded design, bracelet, movement, etc.I also do agree that the 40 is more flash while the 36 is the most elegant and understated Day Date maybe ever made. As I said in earlier post it has garnered some real compliments from friends who are both afficianados as well as non WIS types. Says something….

NO. 40mm is thinner. I dont like that. I like the thickness of the 36mm case but they decided to make it thinner with the 40mm.

If we are being honest, I think the 40K price difference Is the deciding factor for most? Translates to trading in a couple Rolex + Cash for the 36, vs selling the entire collection for the 41

The money is an issue but it’s not the ‘whole’ collection but is it worth the extra money and will it have duration vs the 36 which is the original. The ROO was hit for a while and has faded will the DD 40 do the same.
