Suspicious seller in classified

While I am not comfortable doing the transaction with the seller. I am unsure if I should report it or their name here.

The seller wanted a wire transfer. Many things raised suspicion and I asked for a video chat they they agreed to.

Half an hour later they said they couldnt do the transfer but his 'wife' can take a picture for me.

The picture on it's own was suspect and no way would I wire money to this person.

Not sure about reporting the name (yet).

We are texting back and forth and it's turned ito accusations about me! haha

I want to be wrong of course and hate to make accusations if I am wrong.

But nothing adds up and the seller is vacillating between understanding and anger at me after I requested a photo and got one picture that made me more suspicious not less!

I'd never wire money without a very good reason and checking out the seller as best I could.

I want to report the member but am giving it a day just to be 100% sure.

Let the mods know (hit the red triangle on the seller's post), and maybe they can do a not-so-random spot check.

I searched his phone earlier but my sister just was able to find that some number listed to someone else..to add even more suspicions.

Yep, always good to hit up the mods if something is "off". They are pretty quick / efficient `round here, as that user has already been banned.

Damn that was fast...very gratifying as the story of the scam was long although amusing, as he got madder and madder.

Meanwhile I am still looking for a 114300 White dial!

here's the scammer's texts..yesterdays were pretty great..especially when he told me I was discriminating against him because he's Norwegian...Yes he actually said that!

I left my replies out as I just kept repeating my need for a videochat.

Scammer: You got me kicked off the forum??
I wasn’t able to have a video chat with you even after I had provided a timestamp.

We have not done business before, maybe it’s because I’m Norwegian but I don’t know you enough for a video chat. A call is suitable not a video chat but you were insisting.

We can have a face to face here I’m an immigrant and I am being careful with who I do deals with as I have heard some stories. I have my ad on other forums and sites, it is only a matter of time.
I see it from your point and I could guarantee that if you had done as initially planned I would definitely have had a video chat with you but it seamed like you didn’t trust that I would ship out even after I have provided a timestamp and references.

I just needed a commitment from you as the buyer because I have had different buyers asking about the same watch.

I understand but you had my ad removed on Trf. Even a 2k - 3k to my Zelle account would have sufficed. If you hadn’t told me on a call that you wld get the wire done or make any promises I would have been inclined to do whatever you asked.

It made me feel like there wasn’t any trust in the first place and you were just making empty promises. Even if I provide my ID, video chat or sit out up close with you, you would not still be able to buy my watch.

He doesn't know you enough for a video chat, but you should feel you know him well to send him thousands of $$?? HAHA. He should know that video chat is standard practice and not an unreasonable ask among buyers/sellers.

I am from Aberdeen in Scotland so have met a lot of Norwegians. They work in the oil industry. I completely agree that they would never talk about themselves like that.
Norway is a solid country and one of the richest in the world. The are humble however but they know their upbringing and wealth is way better than most.

The scammer's problems began with him choosing an unusual last name. Searches revealed very few people with that name and none from Norway, not that it mattered all that much anyways.

Nothing he provided yielded any searchable results. It was highly suspect but not conclusive.

When I made a phone call, just from the way it was ringing I already was 90% this was a scammer...His accent was very heavy and that combined with such a bad connection didn't add to any feeling of comfort.

The deal breaker was a refusal to video chat. While I was never in any real danger to complete the transaction with a wire transfer I did not believe at first it was a scammer. I can see how people who let down their guard get taken.
