Thinking about a pre-loved Day-Date....Thoughts?

So, I recently purchased my GMT-IIc for my trip to Paris becasue I couldn't wait to finally own a Rolex. I am planning on picking up the new TT Subc when it finally debuts, but am ow considering picking up a pre-loved Day-Date in WG instead. What are you guys thoughts?

I like the idea of having some diversity in my little collection, but have some concerns. Do you guys think a 36mm watch is really more of a ladies size? should I save up and go for a DDII? If I were to go to a pre-loved Day-Date, what serial and what year would I need to get to have the ROLEXROLEXROLEX rehaut and the "new" heavier style presidential band?

Any pictures of a classic, 36mm Day-Date would be greatly appreciated. I'd appreciate all viewpoints too!

Thanks!

I'm sure the size police will be along soon but you need to answer that question yourself by trying one on. Don't let others tell you what does or does not work for you.
As far as preloved, it's the only way I've gone it it's worked great for me.
Good luck,
dP

I think the DD is great and 36mm is still fine for a man! You need to try on both sizes though to see which you prefer.

Definatly get a DD. My first was Yellow and I thought I was to young to swing a yellow gold watch so I traded for a WG. The wg was great because most people thought it was steel. I have seen nice older DD's in the stores for around 11k with older bands newer bands and soild links NOS never worn for 16K without an engraved rehaut. You can get a NIB DDII in the 19's maybe lower. preowned is no problem. Most people couldnt afford these watches buying retail me being one of them. My first DD's were all preowned. The size thing is a personal thing. It you think you can swing a big watch go for the DDII. All of the DD's look great at any size. Go for it you wont regret it!!!

Day Dates are a great and classy standard..

I believe that you an go back to a D model and still get the etched rehaut on this model....... probably there are brand new D's still on the Dealer shelves.

The solid bracelets go back a bit further.......probably to Y's, at least. When buying used, the bracelet and any stretch are the items to be concerned about. Earlier models had a hollow bracelet with caps to appear solid, and the relatively elastic gold would stretch some........... Buying a DD with a stretched bracelet is never a good idea as a replacement bracelet could cost as much as the watch is worth..

I was looking at an older 18K YG DD President today.

They wanted 8K.

I paid 5K for mine. It is a vintage YG 1803 from 1965. I bought it to put into rotation with a Pepsi GMT II and a TT DJ.

I think DD has its tradition and history as a similar size and outlook in previous models. I am not prefer the new DDII as it likely broken this tradition and become more trendy as only be "big" in size.

Just my two cents.
