Daytona is really really nice, I'll post some links of the ones I'm putting on my list.

And the winner is:

http://www.rolex.com/en/collection/o...116710LN-0001/

And as for the Daytona in stainless steel, that I will buy with my own money one day, if I stop throwing money away on Tags and Omegas ... one day.

There is a member here selling a yellow-gold Submariner for about $10K. Buy that and a stainless steel companion, for $15K or less and have the perfect pair, plus your dad keeps the other $5K!

Whichever you end up getting, make sure you insure the watch in the US. Best of luck!

2 months? Oh man...you are in trouble. In 60 days you will drive yourself crazy by either, 1) Obsessing over the idea of strapping the IIC to your wrist, or 2) Going back & forth over the idea of all the other models to choose from.

I guess the good news is if you are still 100% sure you want the IIC in 60 days, then it's the right watch for you. If you're still debating, then that could be a good indication that maybe you should think about another model. At any rate, hopefully you won't go too crazy during the waiting period. Good luck!

Ok so now you just put doubt in my mind .. great. I will actually not think about any model, but will just walk into the store and pick up whatever I like at that moment. Chances are they won't even have the GMT II in stock, you never know.

My inspiration watch is a Daytona, but my dream is a Patek.

black dial .. i have a post floating somewhere around here with pics ... one main reason why i bought it was cause of the dual time zone capability and the 3186 movement:) not to mention reasonably priced. bought it brand spanking new ....

He is not an auth expert so he just trusted the guy and paid the money. (Btw, Dubai is notorious for fakes). Any whos .. now he told me he will take me personally to a Rolex showroom and get me a brand new Rolex. I can pick anything I want under 20K. However, humble that I am, I don't care much for the higher end rolexes. I'm thinking Submariner, Deep Sea, Explorer, or perhaps the Daytona ... suggestions???
So is your father in law out $20,000.00 ???? Did he get his money back?? What happened??

As to watch, I'd go for a YM or a gold GMT II, or a Daytona, if available. You are a LUCKY guy! A wonderful father in law.

Where in Dubai are you getting married? I have never been there, but the pictures of the city are awesome, they had an article in Top Gear about three wealthy young guys in Dubai who all own Bugatti Veyrons, and would race each other on some long straight empty street in Dubai. The photos of the three cars and the city were stunning!!
So, where are you going to hold the wedding? If I was going to do it, it would be on the beach, near the Burj Al Arab. I LOVE that hotel! Simply a stunning piece of architecture!

Again, you are a LUCKY guy!

Best wishes on your wedding!

David

Yes my father in law indeed got his money back, but i didn't pursue the matter any further. I had saved up enough to pick up a rolex and i did just that.

My family lives around the Jumeirah beach area ... lovely lovely spot.

Going back to the day date dilemma the jeweler himself gave me an entire background as to how he makes select fake models (yes and I was furious throughout the entire conversation) ....

So he said that everything they use on the fake model are random Rolex parts they buy here and there. The casing and bezel were indeed white gold. The bracelet was a regular china made stainless steel, and the movement was Japanese. At the end of the conversation I literally told him piss off and go drown in his own bile. How dare he charge us a right arm and a leg, then a left arm and a leg!!!!!! Anyways, at least he refunded 18.5K.

At the end of all this madness, I have ended up with this beauty that never leaves my wrist, and thank you all for helping me through this.

Any White Gold Daytona would be a keeper, and should fit your budget.

The architecture might be stunning, but personally I didn't care too much for the interior decorating/colors used inside. I couldn't wait to visit it during my one & only time to Dubai...but sure enough I kind of felt like I was in Circus Circus while I walked around the inside and visited the restuarants and bars up top. Why too garish w/ vibrant colors that scream, "Kids picked out the colors" IMO...I started to go crossed-eyed after a while...but I guess that's the style. Still a beautiful building and very impressive, just not exactly what I had envisioned.

No I totally agree. The architecture is stunning from outside, but inside the hotel is too LOUD and at the same time looks cheap (not the inexpensive kind). I prefer Atlantis over it .. the food i good too.

Exactly...but I guess it's just a different styling culture than what we're use to. No doubt no expense was spared, but WOW, some of those colors and patterns just screams, "Kindergardener on crack decorated the joint!"

I've heard from my brother in law that one of the Shaikhs himself decorated the place ...

I really won't be spending 20K, I'm very seriously considering putting down 5-6K on a Sub and thats it. I really need an everyday watch. I can't walk around the streets of Manhattan with a gold rolex on my wrist anyways...
You're really taking a good attitude toward your F-I-L's misfortune. I would say get and SD, DSSD, or wait for the new Subby to come out at Basel 2010 and pick that up. If you want one now, I would get the SD (V-serial) if you can find one, as this is the last of a classic and they are not as common as Subs.

Good luck in your search and post pics of whatever you decide on!
