New to Rolex - 79160 26mm Lady Datejust - please help verify
Hi!
I am new to Rolex. :) My only experience thus far are 2 Tudor watches - a 33mm Claire de Rose (love it) still under warranty and a brand new Tudor Royal 34mm. I tried on a 26mm and 28mm Lady Datejust at the dealer and thought I would like to try and find a watch not as pricey as the ones at the AD but an older model so I could slowly enter into the Rolex world. Here is the item - I do not yet have it in hand but ordered it from a dealer on Chron24. Per the listing its a 26mm from 2002 and has box and papers. The dealer said, "In excellent condition and recently serviced by a Rolex watchmaker. All components are factory original. Photos of actual watch. Rolex Calibre 2235, 31 Jewels.. Comes with the original box, papers, and instructions." Thank you for your help! This is quite nerve-racking. Last edited by clairederose77; 31 August 2022 at 03:05 PM.. Reason: My pics not showing |

Not an expert on these, but the date font looks off.

Thanks - I was looking at comparable ones on BobWatches and Swisswatchexpo - but very hard to tell. I am thinking once it is here I have a local watch smith who is WOSTEP certified and is highly recommended so I may ask for him to take a look and get it sized. :)

The date font is correct for Lady models of that era. Though, the angle that the pic was taken, and/or photo "enhancements" may be contributing to it looking a bit off. Could be an aftermarket crystal as well.
Appears as though the dial-to-movement interface might not be 100% aligned either (date disc looks a bit canted in the dial's date window). However that could also just be a photo anomaly. |

And, good call on getting a 2nd (professional) opinion for anything purchased on C24! |

Thanks everyone! This was my "first" foray into Rolex. I never thought I would even buy one *lol* but I have SO loved the two Tudors I have so I wanted to try something a little different. I should receive it tomorrow so will plan on taking new pics.

I got SUPER lucky with the Claire de Rose 33m - I did purchase it off of C24 from a small dealer in Oklahoma from a one owner there in OK as well. When I took into the dealer here to resize they couldn't believe it was used - the woman before me must have only worn it for dressing up. The diamonds absolutely sparkle but not so much that it is too much (I am more conservative and not flashy but like a little fancy now and then). I will touch base with the watchsmith as soon as Fedex arrives. :) |

Watch has arrived.
I am surprised as to how little this watch has ever been used. I cant see anything really. Even the box looks as if it was not opened all that often - I can tell the red has seeped in a little to the cardboard box from sitting there awhile. There is not a huge amount of creasing with the box and the previous owner (its kind of weird I can see all of her details on the paperwork). the manuals I can tell are older and they are accurate but she never leafed through them - I dont even think she ever unfolded her warranty docs they are crisp. I do love she saved all of the tags, etc. The 26mm is a little smaller than what I am used to - I have a 27mm quartz panthere that feels way too dressy even though the face and dial is bigger than the panthere all of the casing makes the panthere seem much bigger. I at times think my 33m and 34mm tudors are BIG - I tried on a 36mm OP at the AD and it was way too big. Here are the latest pics https://imgur.com/a/pX4HExT |

Hah! I am not sure!
I like the look - but I also tend to like the more traditional feminine looks - probably because I have always been more of a tomboy growing up and then it took me forever to have a little bit of grace - and even then I am deluding myself *LOL* I tried on the OP36 at the AD and I thought that was big - but then it would be nice to have something more "sporty" I think I need to continue to explore and try to expand my horizons.. oh if I had infinite money |

That's the problem. It gets addicting. Welcome to the slippery slope.
