Rolex 6542 Question
Hello all,
I have an opportunity to purchase this watch Its definitely a 6542 with the correct case and movement (which is currently not ticking) but there are some issues. The bezel insert is not correct. Its been replaced. As far as I can tell, the dial is not correct either. I have never seen a Rolex dial with pointed tips. Not the classic submariner/GMT dots. I would appreciate your thoughts please. Thanks in advance. |

We need to see between the lugs where the bracelet connects. There is A LOT WRONG HERE, but maybe some of this watch is correct.

Dial and date wheel are a challenge for sure.

Dial is probably refinished just look at that coronet.

I am more curious about the hands, which look ok, and the case and bracelet.
OP claims bezel is off, but looks like a fat insert if correct. This is an intriguing mess! |

The hands do not look right to me. Lume and red look off.
I don't think the bezel ring looks right as well. Appears to have a roulette date wheel. I can see some red print slightly hidden. I do not think that is an original redone dial. It appears the dial is askew, not the movement. I am guessing they just glued it on since the feet did not match up. I think they just did not redo the lume. So really all you have is case, movement and bracelet. If those are correct. Oh, and date wheel. . |

I'd move along. Looks like a huge time/money pit even if some parts are genuine/original. Whoever repainted that coronet needs to be strung up.

Loving the Coronet and the double 12 chevron thingy! 70% of a 6542 is the dial and bakelite - unless your a well connected watchmaker type in Cape town I'd pass it over unless you can confirm mid case, caseback, calibre, steel insert, crown and hands are ok then you've got a few thousand $ parts - high risk though and with that dial I'd usually think ' no smoke, without fire'.

If movement case and bracelet are ok then perhaps it is feasible but looks like a jenga tower who knows what will come up when digging

Hands, bracelet and case looks good. Movement runs but manual wind only. Parts of the automatic assembly as gone.
Its the dial that's the issue. |

This dial perched at 45 degrees reminds me ruefully of the Vacherin Constantin piece currently on sale...
:8^}

I’ll take the fat font insert! Just not the rest…
