I have both and they both serve different purposes. I enjoy most immensely but the ROO is when I want wrist presence and the RO is best at nights under low light with the bracelet

I find myself longing for a ROO more than I’ve longed for others (e.g. 116500ln, patek 3940 etc). There are a couple of reasons.

The ROO represents (to me) good old fashion manliness. Strong presence, unapologetic, hardy. I don’t care how small your wrist is, you go hit the gym, get your forearm as veiny and triumphant as possible, and you go rock that ROO. When I wear my usual hyped pieces, I feel dainty, apprehensive, weary of people/things close to me. With the ROO, it’s the opposite. With plans to maintain an active lifestyle with young children, I can’t think of a better luxury+sporty timepiece than a ROO.

ROO also represents a continuation of the rebellious nature of AP, which is why I love AP; kinda the same way characters like Maverick (Top Gun) gets so much affection. RO challenged convention, and it worked. The ROO took things to a more extreme level, I mean Genta hated the ROO; AP was probably thinking then: “ well so what if Genta hates this, we are going to dictate how trends evolve”. Well we all know how popular ROOs became. Discussion for another day, but AP is one of the few examples where their product catalogue looks completely different from previous decades. I love that, that to me deserves respect and recognition. What’s the strongest company in the world lately? Apple. See the similarities?

The issue I had was the retail price (I will note that I have only bought AP at retail, and intend to continue to do so). Astronomical relative to the RO/ROC. But after thinking about it, you’re essentially getting a haute Horology encased with tool watch hardiness. If you just want ‘Tool’, get a Rolex (although there are people out there that baby their Rolex). If you want high end watch making, get a RO. Well if you want the best of both worlds, you gonna have to pay up son.

Now I’m not going to sit here and say one is better than the other. But there’s so much to love about a ROO, and a timepiece you have to add if the AP ethos resonants with you. I hope I’ll be able to add one soon, as of now, my AP collection feels incomplete

Hear, hear!!

I generally prefer my taupe 43mm ROO over my 26331. They’re very different, so they serve different occasions. The ROO has become my daily wearer, while the ROC is better for a weekend / date night / business meeting.

My first AP was a 43mm black ROO and I love it. I am on the more muscular side so the 43mm wears easily. I’m in the military and I’ll admit it’s a watch I have no issues wearing daily. My other daily is a Rolex DSSD, which is an absolute tank.
That said, I was just able to pick up a 41mm 26240 ROC and it too is an amazing watch. I’ve only had the ROC a day now whereas I’ve had the ROO for 7 months but I’m hard pressed to say I like one over the other yet.
If I had to choose it would come down to whether I wanted something on the dressier side that people might recognize, or something more casual that even “watch guys” don’t necessarily notice.

Good luck whichever you choose!

The 42 is totally underrated AP. It’s the sweet spot size wise and a good value in my opinion.

I think there’s less people that like to wear as large of a watch as the roo is which is why the value isn’t higher. I think if they were the same size, 41?, the offshores would be worth more maybe. The sportier watches (Rolex/ Patek) are more in demand ($) and I think the size is the only thing holding the roo back from that. I prefer bigger watches so the roo is my choice plus the ro bracelet/ bezel isn’t as tough as ‘durable.’ Breathe on it wrong and it shows marks.. not good for my lifestyle but I’ll always have one anyway. You’re going to end up with both I’m sure.

Would you rather have a Daytona or a ym on oyster flex?
Neither of these are mine but for reference

Two points to update this thread

1- I appreciate everyone's response and the pics to boot! Really good info in here!

2- I think I found the perfect combination of what I was looking for. I had originally only fawned over the silver dial ROC, and was looking at the black dial ROO. I finally got to see a black dial ROC in person, it's the total package and a mesh between the two of what I really wanted.....the RO bracelet, but a starker contrast/aesthetic of masculinity with a dark dial. It's why I was conflicted between the two models originally, as I was harping on the silver dial as an only choice. Updated my wish list to the black dial ROC, it's the one for me, 100%.

Good luck - friend has one and it's beautiful and a nice contrast between the brushed bracelet / bezel and the dark dial.

Any potential timelines given or "best effort"?

Love this comment.

Now, let me slide my own things quietly with this link of a video I’ve just watched for 30 minutes https://youtu.be/LYQCScYw50k

I am fortunate to have both. The Daytona seems to get wrist time for nicer occasions; the YM42 is a daily for me. Full disclosure, I replaced the oysterflex with a high end leather strap and used that oysterflex on my sub 41 (same 21mm between the lugs) and sourced some endlinks. For whatever reason, I like my PM’s on a nice leather strap and the Oysterflex on steel sports watches

My ROO gets 75% of the wrist time. I am in Florida and between the heat and the active lifestyle its just the right fit for me. That being said the bracelet on my ROC is unbeatable and I would save and get both.

Even though they have similar roots and design language, I don’t think they overlap much at all.

I would never consider my ROO as a daily watch. It goes to the pool, to the beach, on vacation as part of a rotation. Big, rubber, etc are pretty specialized, IMO.

The RO bracelet is one of the best ever made. Rolex President and APRO bracelets are tops for me. The ROC is a great casual watch with a fun complication, and depending on the version you buy, a nice in-house AP movement.

I’d get both.

I have always loved how sporty and versatile the ROOs are in general and you can only imagine how excited I was when AP launched the update for the 43mm ROOs in 2021.

I love how AP has not only kept the main essence of the ROO but further improved on it by addressing the ROO lovers’ pain points. As a result, the watch has been such a delight to wear, it’s extremely comfortable for such a big watch and strap changing has been an absolute breeze.

The only thing is... after a year, as some have mentioned, you may find yourself wearing the RO/ROC for its steel bracelet as it is more versatile, wearable in most occasions and less sporty.

p.s. I got the 43 ROO as my first AP and find myself more excited about a RO/ROC to add into rotation

I recently added one of the newer 43mm ROO titanium pieces and i'm here to praise the updates they've made to the overall design between the gentle curve of the crystal and bezel to allow the piece to be more form fitting to the wrist. It wears significantly better than its 44mm predecessors. I love it.

The ROO compliments my 15500, I don't think they overlap at all; i think i'd feel the same with ROC vs the 15500.

The new 43 ROO is such a great watch. I picked up mine 9 months ago, and have not worn any other watch in my collection. I wore it throughout Europe this summer, and loved every second with it. With the new price increase it is a bit steep. I feel like once people see how awesome these 43 ROO are demand will rise.
